The Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC) said it would prosecute motorists with old number plates and drivers licence as from July 1.
Corps Commander, Clement Oladele, who is the Head, Advisory and Planning Unit of the Corps, said this on Tuesday in Jalingo at a workshop to sensitise motorists on the need to switch over to the new policy.
Oladele noted that the workshop became necessary given the fact that the June deadline to phase out the old system was fast approaching.
“Nigerians are aware that Oct 1, 2013 was set as deadline for them to switch over to the new licence and number plate following the launch of the new policy by President GoodLuck Jonathan, but for some reasons the deadline was shifted to June, 2014.
“As the new date is fast approaching, there is need for us to sensitise and appeal to Nigerians to switch over to the new licence and number plate.
“We want to let people know that when enforcement commences on July 1, anybody found with the old licence and number plate would be treated as a criminal and would face the full wrath of the law,” he said.
Oladele also said that the new driver’s licence and number plate were designed with security features which would be used to check crime.
“The new number plate is tied to an individual and not the vehicle. This implies that if you change your car, you are expected to visit a Motor Licence Agency and do re-validation for your new vehicle.”
Also speaking, Mr. Peter Kibo, the FRSC Sector Commander in the state, said the sensitisation was a continuous process and appealed to Nigerians to try to obtain the new licence and number plate before the June deadline. I will advise FRSC to go and build more cell and prison bcos of new number plate. I dont know when FRSC become a revenue generating agency if not what is the difference between the old number plate and new one. Instead for govt.to check them so that they will not add to the problem of the ppl.
ReplyDeleteNa wah oo!! Without the old licence expiring! Mine will expire next year( d old licence) that's unfair, one is supposed to get the new one when the old one given by FRSC expires.
ReplyDeleteOga FRSC go and sit down. The challenges facing this country is far far beyond new number plate and drivers llicence. Everywhere corruption. I think this issue is already in the law court. Pls I beg allow court to talk. This thing suppose be like voters card, drop old one and collect new free of charge. Pls come out with something more reasonable than this issue of old Vs new number plate I beg.
ReplyDeleteI don't think FRSC members will expose themselves to any community risk in the north having seen what happens to police. Lets wait and see.
ReplyDeleteCriminals in uniform.let's wait and see how it goes.
ReplyDeleteFRSC chief should be reminded that the agency's primary function is to ensure safety on hour federal roads and not for revenue generation. Secondly if a plate number issued to Nigerians are not adequate but already paid for fully.is it not morally right that FRSC should apologise to Nigerians and replace it fteely.Thirdly if truly the essence of changing the plate number is to gather more details for security reasons, why can't FRSC requests vehicle owners to submit the missing details at the nearest vehicle license office and update accordingly like Telecom SIM registration. And lastly Mr Oladele should be educated that when any issue is already in the law court ,it has become a litigation and therefore shoild wait for the outcome of court.s rulings.
ReplyDeleteWhy should i be made to pay for a new number plate when I have already paid for the old one am using now?. When I paid, I was told it would expires one day. If Government want to change the design, i should only be expected to bring it for an exchange, just as when the naira note is re- designed. Tell the FRSC exploiters to ask SOLUDO of CBN how it is done otherwise he should build more prisons to jail Nigerians comes July 2014
ReplyDeleteAs criminal becouse de person steal ur mony or kill ur sister.U beta look for somthin else to say and stop saying nonses, criminal ko criminal ni. Nonses
ReplyDeleteSenseless move
ReplyDeleteFRSC may have good intention but my advice to them is that they should shun dead lines in the exercise and invoke a more friendly approach by applying the option of compulsory transition when either the vehicle or driving license expired. This will avoid heavy demand and pressure on FRSC and will help to fizzle out the old regime giving the fact that FRSC do not have the capacity to cope with the demand of the Nigeria populace. The NLC should liaise and collaborate with FRSC to ensure a smooth transition of the paradigm shift so as not to inflict unnecessary suffering on the helpless society. The National Assembly may have been tipped to remain silent therefore it's only labor union like NLC that can help Nigerians from the plethora of extortion if they NLC have not been tipped also.
ReplyDeleteOga FRSC better look for something more important to do than that of number plate. Just look at the way you are talking like say you nobi naija sef comon to eat man no get food to eat for the day. Look court never rule something dey give dateline. You be ADOKE Or wettin beg.
ReplyDeleterule some thing

ReplyDeleteCommander Clement Oladele, driver's license, licensing of motor vehicles and vehicle registration which includes issuance of number plates are governed by the various TRAFFIC LAWS & REGULATIONS, violation of which is termed as "TRAFFIC OFFENSE" and not "CRIMINAL OFFENSE".
ReplyDeleteLet there be a mass protest against this in all the states, enough is enough! This pple cannot continue to takes us on a ride! This has to stop. Spread the word on bbm, facebook etc
ReplyDeleteDey better prepare to fight, dem go see wiii
ReplyDeleteThis new plate number of a thing is the mischevious machinations of Some Money Grabbing Just woken up FRSC Top Calibers. It just shows that the FRSC has not been doing their job.I want to ask-"Does the FRSC have a database for old plate numbers", OBVIOUSLY NOT.'Cause if this exists middle and low income class earners in Nigeria would not be subject to the untold hardship of looking for N35,000 to N45, 000 to pay for NEW NUMBER PLATES, introduced by someone because he wants to show that his "parastatal" can generate enough REVENUE FOR HIS COUNTRY.....
