FORBES: Dangote is now rated 23rd richest man in the world

Africa’s richest man, Nigeria’s Aliko Dangote, 56, is now the 23rd richest man in the world with a net worth of $25 billion dollars according to the latest Forbes ranking released today, breaking into the top 25 for the first time.

Here is the Forbes entry for him:

Africa’s richest man is looking beyond cement, sugar and flour–the three commodities that built his fortune–to the oil business. In April, he announced $9 billion in financing from a consortium of local and international lenders to construct a private oil refinery, fertilizer and petrochemical complex in the country. His publicly traded Dangote Cement is also grabbing new markets in Africa, with $750 million in new plants planned for Kenya and Niger.

He made his first fortune more than three decades ago when he started trading commodities with a loan from his powerful uncle.

  5. Answer to anonymous 9:01 AM. He needs to sustain his position as one of the richest men in the world. Therefore, they will continue to monopolise businesses for him and we will continue to see increases in prices of commodities such as cement etc. Anyway, congratulations Dangote. May the Almighty God protect you and increase you in wisdom.

  6. Patronage is his story. His biography will not be like bill gates or Steve Jobs etc that people can read and copy. Ok maybe about how to use a network of connection to leverage oneself to the top and be shrewd. Only in that sense

  7. U too go use ur own connection now! Face reality is he the only person with conection? Others failed to use theirs. At least we need to commend him for making so much out of what he was given!
