Thousands of jobless Nigerians angrily blocked the ever busy stadium/barracks route linking Lagos mainland to Lagos Island.
The frustrated youths lamented the cancellation of the Immigration recruitment exams, after they were asked to pay N1000 for the exercise.
Traffic was put to standstill from 1:45PM to around 6:15PM as the angry youths blocked major roads around the National stadium in Surulere Lagos, calling the Immigration Recruitment exercise a 'Total Scam'

Some of them may borrow the money. What a sad experience?
ReplyDeleteMay Almighty Allah save Nigeria!
ReplyDeleteMay the govt look into the matter to find a lasting solution
ReplyDeleteWhy charging job seekers 1000. Naira to secure a job? This is a scam and rip off. All collected money. should return to owners. Goverment should set up a probe about this.
ReplyDeleteI was just thinking the same. Almost half a million students multiplied by1000 Naira. Only 3500 vacancies. What a blatant scam and greedy lot. NIS should have closed down online service when they reached capacity of assessment centre or optimal level of their staff to control.- GHN.
DeleteFor a nation to abuse its youth like this tells you how bad it is.
ReplyDeleteCry my Beloved Country ! A book re-written by NIS. What a shame !
ReplyDeleteArise O' Sleeping Youth of Nigeria!
ReplyDeleteAwolowo was (37), Akintola (36), Ahmadu Bello (36) Balewa (34) and Okotie-Eboh (27), Enahoro (27) led the struggle for independence after the death of Macaulay. Only Zik was 42 at the time.
In 1966, the first coup was led by: Kaduna Nzeogwu (29) and countered by Murtala Mohammed (28), Theophilus Danjuma (28), Babangida (25), Nanven Garba (23), Sani Abacha (23), Shehu Musa Yaradua (23), and brought into power Gowon (32), Ojukwu (33), Obasanjo (29), Buhari (24).
Most of the military administrators who governed the states under the successive military regimes, most of whom are governors now, were under 30 years.
The brief democratic dispensation which interjected the military interregnums also saw the House of Representatives in particular populated by majority of members under 30 years as well as some senators.
Under 30s were also not in short supply with appointments, we have examples of MT Mbu who became foreign affairs minister at 23 and Pat Utomi who became a presidential adviser at 27 and so on and so forth.
NOW:
Why is it that this age bracket is today still sleeping in 3 seater chairs in their parents’ homes?
Why is it that this age bracket is today still collecting pocket money from their parents?
Why is it that this age bracket is today still writing JAMB?
Why is it that this age bracket is today still sagging their trousers?
Why is it that this age bracket is today still searching for jobs?
Why is it that this age bracket is today no longer qualified to even be leaders of youth wings of political parties?
Why is it that this age bracket is today so docile?
Why is it that this age bracket is today still incapable of feeding itself?
Why is it that this age bracket is today barred by law from even aspiring to certain political offices?
Why is it that this age bracket is today incapacitated, unwilling, unable and incapable of asking questions?y
very sad reality
DeleteThought Okonjo Iweala said Govt has provided 1.2 million jobs in d past 12 months. I weep 4 this country
ReplyDeleteShe could actually be close to being right, if you add the number being recruited into the boko haram to those involved in oil bunkering and not forgetting the kidnappers you should come close to her figures. Or isn't all that made possible by d FG?
DeleteThis is out right robbery the immigration officers in charge should be probed prosecuted n punished. But who will talk for us? Y should d federal govt charge money for recruitment, robbing jobless youths. This is ABSURD
ReplyDeleteWhat a shame? Anybody remember when China was like a thirdWorld Country to us? Look China buying up Nigeria today.
ReplyDeleteShame on us. Again look at Ghana, remember when Ghanian girls migrated to Nigeria prostituting all over of the Country. Well, look at Ghana today.
ReplyDeleteShame on us. Again look at Ghana, remember when Ghanian girls migrated to Nigeria prostituting all over of the Country. Well, look at Ghana today.
ReplyDeleteIt's really terrible. It's daunting. Government really need to think out of d box to help this teeming youth towards safeguarding d future of this country. Little wonder various types of crime is everywhere cos d idle youth are ready tools. We can't can't divorce d rate of insurgency/armed robbery/kidnapping from d rate of unemployment in d country. To combat all those crimes just to a larger extent, means combating unemployment...
ReplyDeleteEhnnnn, well said. Nigerian youth is lazy and has accepted it to be a norm. We need to fight for a course even though lives will be lost. God will not come down and do some things for us except we do it. It will only get worse if we don't do something for a change. Social problems will increase and as a social worker, I can put it to you that money and power are hereditary in Nigeria so if your father is not a politician or your mother is not in the senate... Forget it!
ReplyDeleteSo the question is...what shall we do about it???
ReplyDeleteIs a shame that Nigeria cannot conduct a small recruitment process so how can we conduct elections or census. This is animal kingdom.
ReplyDeleteJonathsn should as a matter of urgency sack the Controller General of immigration and Minister of Youth development, instead of Jonsthsn to fix the problems facing the common masses,he is busy campaigning for 2015,God will punish you all
ReplyDeleteI just imagin if some people will be comparing nigeria with chana what is there population? Before this country can move forward they must divide bcs nigeria is having some bastard element gather togeder to form this country
ReplyDeleteThey have looted the soul of this country. Our monies are in foreign banks, kept by our political/criminal and military class for their unborn children yet none of these thieves can establish industries capable of employing our youths. Election time is drawing closer, these same youths will sell their votes, conscience and future for a token sum of N500 to N1000 and we cry of unemployment. Youths I hope we can reason right and see how much damage we are doing to ourselves.
ReplyDeleteDesmond.
It seems is better for everone to split so we can get our bearing.God pls help us
ReplyDeleteYes I support splitting too! This appear to be our only way out, since it will now be smaller countries and will be better managed. Those who's against the country splitting knows what they are enjoying in the midst of this suffering. Youths think about it, every region should just form their own country and we all pick it up from there. that's my take on this.
DeleteIt is a shame that they requested money from jobless youth seeking to be employed, that shows how
ReplyDeletecorruption has become a system in this country. Only God can save us. Emeka
To me am not surprise cus our youth are lazy ,if only half of these applicants can embrace FARMING then the government will come on its kneel.
ReplyDeleteI am a graduate of marine engineering from Ghana did my masters in China got a job in an oil firm but left it for farming and today farming has open so many doors for me,pls Nigerian youth your govt, can never and will never help your situation.think out of the JOB HUNTING BOX and be self employ.FARMING in a little way can make 15,000 -25,000 dollars......THINK NIGERIA THINK
@annoymous 3.04, guess u were able to save a little while working for the oil firm before going into forming, how do u expect someone who probably has just graduated to go into farming? Where wud he find the Capital to buy land for forming. its a shame our govt collects Money from unemployed youths, in a country like the uk, unemployed youths are paid about 50 pounds every week, thats like 12,000 naira every week. our govt should now their teasin shame. the comptroller general should resign, this is total fraud
ReplyDeleteThe question remains............................. What do we do about this?are we going to lament and curse under anonymity? Or stand together as youths to fight for our right? Arise youth nigeria, your said time is now. Zurielle
