Despite Boko Haram killings, Nigerian Government deploys 820 new NYSC corps members to Borno

Despite the killing of hundreds of people in Borno in the last one month by the outlawed Boko Haram sect, the National Youth Service Corps has deployed 820 new corps members to the state.

The deployment was disclosed by Margaret Dakama, the Head, Public Relations Unit of NYSC in Gombe State.

The NYSC is a mandatory one-year scheme by the Nigerian government for all Nigerian university and polytechnic graduates below 30 years.

In a statement on Friday, Ms. Dakama said 1090 corps members were also deployed to Gombe.

The newly deployed corps members are part of the 2014 Batch ‘A’ group while their orientation course will be held in Gombe.
The statement said that Gombe, a neighbouring and safer state to Borno, was once again hosting corps members deployed to Borno for the three weeks orientation at Malam-Sidi Orientation Camp.

Gombe State had also hosted the orientation course of the Borno 2013 batch ‘C’ corps members.
According to the statement, the orientation will commence on March 11 and end on April 1.

It also asked for the support and cooperation of the people of Gombe state in directing participants to the venue of the orientation.

The statement stated that Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe would be the special guest of honour at the opening ceremony.
Thousands of people have been killed in Borno and some other northern states since the Boko Haram insurgency began in 2009.
This led the Nigerian government to declare a state of emergency in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa in May 2013.

Despite the emergency rule however, the attacks by the sect worsened in 2014, particularly in Borno, but also in Yobe and Adamawa, leading to the death of hundreds of people and the burning of thousands of houses and vehicles by the outlawed sect.

  4. Nigeria is bringing more misery to our youth. How many of those big mens children will be posted there? What an insensitive elite.

  5. This is clear madness! How can the Federal Govt concede to posting corp members to troubled states where BH is killing human beings like chicken. I don't think any of those top govt functionaries have their kid(s) posted to any state in North East, Nigeria. No right thinking person should go to those areas for any reason. Corp members must reject this posting!

  6. I need not bother read the body of the news, but have this to say - any Corp members or the family of any of these corpers that allow themselves or their children to be sent to such a place must be a fool/s.

  8. This is the sign of people that don't know what to do or what they are suppose to do. honestly, they are not concern about the innocent souls being killed and it shows they enjoyed it so much. No wonder they could not come out with a solution in tackling it. Like l always say......LEADERS WITH NO VISION. As it was, so shall it be and forever more. this is thee slogan. the same things applies in other area too. NO CREATIVITY..........WHAT A SHAME

  9. Sense inside shoes....unreasonable government. Please its not by force to serve , after all this does not guarantee jobs. Use the service year to get other certifications if the idiots are adamant in posting you to the abattoirs.

  10. If this is true then the government isn't realistic. Parents should keep their children at home if they're not redeployed to more peaceful states. They can even wait for the next batch. Those concerned can hold a peaceful protest too. It's only the living that can look for job after youth service o.

  12. North east! So after polarizing and pulverizing dis zone govt still had d audacity to post njgerian youths to be used as sacrificial lambs? Well, parents d choice is urs. DO NOT Allow ur wards to serve in a state where they wuld be slaughteted like a ram in a slaughter house. Dats my candid advice.

  14. I see, the service of the corp members is more important to the life of the corp members. Meanwhile are their families award? If their award, any outcome of their service the will accept and take it in good faith. Wishing them, death trap state, and Nigeria the best of luck.
