Angry youths hurl stones at Governor, disrupt APC rally

Hundreds of angry youth, on Sunday, in Nasarawa local government area, disrupted the All Progressives Congress, APC, campaign rally towards the local government elections fixed for March 22.

The youth, who threw stones at the podium few minutes after the state governor, Umaru Al-Makura was about to deliver his speech, claimed they were protesting the imposition of a candidate by the party.

The youth had, during the primaries, selected Tijani Ahmed as the party’s candidate. But they are now accusing the party of imposing another candidate, Abdullahi Ibrahim.

The aggrieved youth came to the venue of the rally, Government College, Nasarawa, with stones in Ghana-must-go sacks and vowed to vote against the APC candidate at the polls.

They ignored repeated appeals by the state governor for calm.

Most dignitaries ran away as the crisis escalated, with few people sustaining injuries as a result of the near stampede.

Although security operatives at the venue of the rally were able to control the situation by unleashing tear gas, many attendees at the rally however left the venue for fear of more trouble from the youth.

Eventually, the angry youth were forcefully dispersed and the rally continued.

Meanwhile, during the flag-off the local government elections campaign in Toto local government area, Mr. Al-Makura appealed to the people of the state to vote for the APC at all levels to guarantee their future.

He said only the APC has the manifesto that would bring meaningful gains to the people.

Mr. Al-Makura said his administration would create additional chiefdoms in the area to give the people a sense of belonging.

“Our administration has in the last one year been able to impact meaningful development by bringing government closer to the people through the creation of development areas,” he said.

A senator representing Nasarawa West district, Abdullahi Adamu, said the APC would sweep the 2015 general election and called on the people not to waste their votes.

Mr. Adamu said that his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, had brought an end to the party in the state.

  1. Imposing is part of APC manifesto and is part of what they use to form the party and part of what we kill and distabilised the party come 2015

  2. Ha ha ha ha ha! These youths haven't seen anything yet. Imposition of candidates is their food. Their national chairman said it's their RIGHT to impose candidate.

  4. This is the problem with our youth, they have no direction. Come to think of it, are those youth politicians, are they card carrying members what is their business going to disrupt APC rally. The truth is that they are being used by the opponent otherwise they should wait to vote against them during election proper. I bet you they are the type that don't know the power of their vote. They may even sell their vote if at all they registered. Look at the youth that where recently disgraced, maimed and killed by the Federal government all in the name of fraudulent employment. Even some of the commentary you read on this site are mainly from the youth. Just check out their level of reasoning. You will agree with me that we don't have enough youth that are intelligent. Do you know Wole Soyinka, Pa Awolowo, Zik of Africa, Abraham Adesanya, Nbadiwe the Timber & Calibre, Cyprian Ekwency, Chinua Achebe, Chukwu Emeka Ojukwu, Samuel Osaigbovo Ogbemudia, Murtala Mohammed, Col. Umar, Obi Wali, Dabo, Taka, Modibo, Fela Anikulapo etc......etc my question now is What was their age when the started fighting for the betterment of Nigeria and Nigerians, now compare the current crops of age bracket we have now. It is a shame, they are disappointment to human race. All they understand is how much money they will go get should they stand for their inalienable right. For me and those of my generation we are watching. We have made our own impart, whether you like it or not. We want to see the improvement your generation can make. GoodLuck or may be...........................BadLuck
