Thirteen governors of the North are in the United States searching for help against the Boko Haram insurgency.
They met yesterday for eight hours at the United States Peace Institute and the State Department in Washington DC. with U.S. government officials and representatives of Norway and Denmark.
Details of the first round of the closed-door meeting, which was sponsored by the U.S. government in collaboration with the governments of Norway and Denmark, could not be obtained last night.
The meetings are expected to continue till tomorrow.
The Peace Institute said the biggest issue discussed was how Nigeria could overcome the Boko Haram insurgency, especially through education and economic investments.
Other issues discussed included re-invigorating the U.S. attention on the north, economic investment opportunities in the region, security and challenges of private investments in the region.
The governors were reportedly given time to dialogue among themselves on the way out of Boko Haram.
Among the governors in attendance were Babangida Aliyu (Niger), Kashim Shetttima (Borno) and Murtala Nyako (Adamawa) (Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto), Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara), Saidu Dakingari (Kebbi), Isa Yuguda (Bauchi) and Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano). ReplyDeleteThis people are so funny, it is now they see issue of Boko Haram as a problem, when this group was building up years ago, where were the governors and elders of the states, including religiuos leaders, now they are running to U.S for help, when they were all busy looting and shearing, they incapacitate the less priviledge, raised tribal division and religious division, now they want investors. You all don't think of future, same goes to entire so called leaders of Nigeria. How do you expect the U.S officals and government to see you people, as a brainee leaders or bunch of idiots that are still looting and running for assistance, you people are the destroyer yourself because you allow Boko Haram in the name of religion.
ReplyDeleteWhat about national security?
ReplyDeleteThis is another means of waisting our currency. How many aids accompanied them? The world is now an open window, why couldn't they carry out through communication and when have they become so concerned that they cannot sort it with their president? They are all pretenders of faith.

ReplyDeleteWhat is the problem with Kwara State Governor? What business does this Igbomina man really have with the core north. Even if it is a thousand years from now, one day, we shall return to where we belong!
ReplyDeleteAfter setting up BH to make the country 'ungovernable' for Jonathan, they have now realized that their lives are in danger. And it's too late to disband the monster they created.
ReplyDeleteAbout time! If Jonathan will not act decisively, then the Governors can seek outside help. But, where is Governor Jonah J? Swallowed by the fish only to end up in Aso Rock, may be? Hmn. They had better stop looking at the Niger Delta resource and think of the enormous ones at their disposal, naturally.
