The United Nations on Wednesday joined prominent Nigerians and groups in condemning the gruesome killing of schoolchildren in the Federal Government College, Buni Yadi in Yobe State by Boko Haram insurgents.
Also, some surviving victims of the attack recounted their ordeal on Wednesday.
Aliyu Ayuba, a JSS 3 student, fled the scene with a bullet in his back. He said the assailants; young men and boys in military uniforms and plain clothes, ordered the students to gather in one place and started shooting sporadically. Aliyu added that all his roommates were killed and burnt inside the hostel.
Another survivor said, “I was shot in my left leg, while I was sleeping. When I woke up, I could not walk and was later taken to the girls’ hostel where the insurgents gathered us with the female students. They selected some of the female students and went away with them, while they left some of us groaning in pain from gunshots.”
A teacher, Mallam Samaila Idris, narrated how the attackers drove into the school premises in nine Hilux vans at around midnight on Monday; their bloody operation lasted for over five hours.
He said that those who stayed at the school thought the assailants were military personnel, until the shooting started. Idris added that those in the staff quarters fled before the terrorists started the fire.
Before the National Human Rights Commission, the Nigerian Bar Association, the Arewa Consultative Forum, the Jama’atu Nasril Islam, the Northern Elders Forum, the President of the Senate, David Mark, the Speaker, House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, and the Prelate, Methodist Church of Nigeria, Dr. Chukwuemeka Uche, reacted, a state hospital official said the death toll had risen from 43 to 59.
“Fresh bodies have been brought in. More bodies were discovered in the bush after the students who had escaped with bullet wounds died from their injuries,” Bala Ajiya of the Damaturu Specialist Hospital said late on Wednesday.
Ajiya added that the school’s 24 buildings, including staff quarters, were completely burned to the ground by the attackers during the onslaught.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Senate Committee on Defence and Army had passed a resolution directing the Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Kenneth Minimah, to relocate his office to Borno State in order to effectively monitor the war against the insurgents in the North –East. This is nonsence, imagine five hours and nothing was done, the military could not do anything, even the police. They should be sacked abeg.
ReplyDeleteWetin this INNOCENT young ones do this ISLAMIC terrorist? I hope the IDIOTS from the NORTH are HAPPY with their MONSTER-BOKO HARAM.
ReplyDeleteMay the ALMIGHTY GOD punish anybody in support of these DEMONS, directly or in their HEARTS.
This is serious. I hope we get solution to it soonest. Killing innocent souls is uncalled for.
ReplyDeleteVery sad.
ReplyDeleteThat collaborate Gov. Shettima's statement that the Boko-Haram are better equipt and motivated than the Nigerian Army. We are not safe in Nigeria everything in the system is not working.
ReplyDeletePolice men are rubish in Nigeria. All they know is to extort money from innocent nigerians.
ReplyDeleteI smell a rat here. Northern rulers over to you. This nothern hunger for power in Abuja sef. what have they done with it for 38 yrs? Nothing! So why are they willing to spill the blood of the own youth or keep quiet from pointing out the culprit leaders just to make nigeria ungovernable for getting into power again? The masses of the north are the poorest even during norther rule and I really mean rule. So clearly this fight for abuja is not for the masses of the north but for their fulani elites again to make their masses more poor and ignorant while they send their elite children abroad to study in the best western education schools and continue their born to rule ignorance and set the nation backwards again and yet massage their ego and bank balance. To be brutally honest in terms of development GJ is the best president that the north have ever had. He goes so far out of his way to develop them with his own peoples niger delta oil money while the north moan and complain but produce little to the wealth of this nation despite all the mineral and agricultural wealth they have potencially. Northern masses WAKE UP!! And free yourselves from these elites that are sucking your blood like parasites. Remove these feudal elites that rule over you and are trying to rule over nigeria again. We are wiser now.
ReplyDeleteSome people dont just av head....!
DeleteIf there is no means of communication like making calls how then can people call to tell about things or suspected movement again another thought is there no community around the place that will know how the military operates to inform them, this and many question came to mind. Now they want to be given amnesty pay them for killing peoples children, am not a Muslim but i know this is not Islam, because i leaved in Ilorin for many years and i know who is a Muslim and who is a terrorist.
ReplyDeleteThis is so sad. Where are we heading to in dis country. May God heal our land
ReplyDeleteThey said police was overwhelmed nd brought in military, now military has displayed in various occasions, high level of inefficiency, lacking competence, lacking in training, lacking initiatives. How on earth didn't d military commander there knew that a place like d federal govt college should be provided wt security? What are they doing there?
ReplyDeleteSome of the people contributing here are blinded with regional, ethic, partican hatred instead of coming togather to find solutions to the evil that is befalling us prefered to see things through the eyes of hatred. I bet you bullet no know tribe, politics, region etc!!!
ReplyDeleteWell its very sad, I am a product of a federal govt college n ve bin picturing how d children would ve bin running abt in d huge land mass. D problem is dat bk in dose days federal govt college used to b a PRIDE for many parents bt now how many of our leaders ve their wards there? N now dis case has worsend it all.mr president pls d blood of dose children is on ur neck weda bokoharam, muslims, xtians, north, south, east,or west, u are d comander in chief of d armed forces. ReplyDeleteGod Pls don't be silent in this , pple are dying and our government is weak. Oh God arise and fight the battle for your children. Pls accept them in your kingdom Amen .
ReplyDeleteso sad
ReplyDelete@ Abdulhamid Aminu Saleh, if they are so brave, well armed and motivated, why do they skulk around like hyenas killing innocent children and defenceless people in their sleep? Or once in a while attacking a few isolated police and military units and running away like the cowards they are? Why don't they stand and fight and achieve their aim of forcing a country of over 170 million people to join their cult of blood sucking demon? Let the governor go and fight them since he knows so much about their structure.
ReplyDelete@ Anonymous February 27, 2014 at 1:05 PM, So who do tney represent??? Is it Christianity, Hindu, or Budhism? They have clearly stated their affiliation and qouted scriptures to support their act but you and your kind still bury your head in the sand and feign ignorance. People like you are part of the problem.
ReplyDeleteStupid leaders, insensitive leaders, animals in human skin, God will punish you and your families. Instead of dealing with the monster once and for all, they are calling international bodies to help them fight their insurgents. F o o l I s h......
ReplyDeleteMr. GEJ supporter wake up! Innocent ppl n children are being massacred on daily basis bt bcause Ur judgement is be clouded with sentiments U dnt see that. In developed countries, GEJ, his cabinet and all security, intelligence n military chiefs would hve resigned en mass 2 pave way 4 a decisive n focus government 2 b formed which is ready to fight terror bt bcause he is weak, insensitive, n lacking focus, he is busy with his centennial celebration. May God save us as it is clear Nig is heading towards ANARCHY!
ReplyDeleteThey want frustrate GJ to leave officr and not recontest so they run out of southerners to kill so they turn on themselves. Pikin wey say Im mama no go sleep him sef no go sleep
ReplyDeleteYOU SEND YOUR KIDS/CHILDREN ABROAD, THEN YOU KILL THE ONES ON GROUND ( IN NIGERIA), YOU THINK ALL WILL BE WELL WITH YOU AND YOUR FAMILY? PAY-BACK IS NOW AND NOT TOMORROW FOR ALL THOSE WHO HAVE HAND(S) IN THE MASSACRE/KILLING OF THESE INNOCENT CHILDREN. THE BLOOD OF THE CHILDREN WILL SEEK YOU ALL OUT ONE BY ONE.
ReplyDeleteThank u.....!
ReplyDeleteI am indeed very sorry that president Jonathan is not competent and cannot be taken serious. Is this part of goodluck he's claming. He declared a state of emergency, yet this is happening. To me it shows he's not respected at all. How come the heads of army etc. are still in charge. The people of this region are scary. I don't even understand their mission. If they do not want Jonathan to remain president, why are they killing themselves? If western education is sin, is this the way to register their protest?Sincerely, I am struggling to understand them quite well. This is extremely a sad moment for Nigeria.

ReplyDeleteThere is no solution in sight. Unfortunately that's the truth. Nothing can be done to stop book haram because each time they carry out and get away with this attacks, they become bolder and audacious. Not with attempts of Mr president requesting to dialogue with them and granting them amnesty.
Sorry guys but the truth is bitter, book haram is here to stay until someone with balls decides to tackle them blood for blood and eye for an eye just as the Americans would have done.
Someone who can take the fight to them is needed and not a cowering and condescending figure like GEJ.
i wish to say here that the former governor of borno state should be arrested for forming boko haram, he institutionalize it, if not financing it. some of the northern people are their looking for power, but they forgot that it is only god that give power, now i smell a rat among the military, how could they leave a place and boko haram come and strike. i believe their is an informant. army top head should check this.
ReplyDeletethis are innocent live been wasted. we should remember that one day we will all be accounted for it.
