Former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday met with the leadership of Christian Association of Nigeria from the South-West in Osogbo over the crisis trailing the new education policy of Governor Rauf Aregbesola.
The peace meeting, which was held behind closed door at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Osogbo, lasted for close to three hours.
While Tinubu and Aregbesola led the government team to the meeting, the Chairman of CAN in the South-West, Bishop Magnus Atilade, and CAN chairman in Osun State, Rev. Elisha Ogundiya, led others clergymen to the peace meeting.
It was gathered that Tinubu, who is one of the national leaders of the All Progressives Congress, appealed to the religious leaders to sheath their swords but the leadership of CAN was said to have maintained its stand on the issues.
Tinubu, while briefing journalists after the meeting, said he was in the state to see that there was no religious crisis, saying everything should be done to avoid that.
He said, “We are here in the state because of the concern for the future of our children knowing full well that education is the greatest weapon against poverty. We cannot allow the process of educating and developing our children to divide us, we cannot allow that to pervert their minds, we cannot allow that to separate them in a manner that will bring misunderstanding. As a leader, we must be ready to provide that.
“Religious crisis cannot happen in Osun State and we shall not allow those behind it to succeed.
Education is essential to us and religion is also very important. We shall therefore ensure that the two are not affected. The concerned people have agreed to give peace a chance.
The APC leader said the party’s presidential candidate would be selected in a transparent manner, adding that it would not cause any rift in the party because the process would be credible.
Tinubu explained that the selection of the party’s presidential candidate would be transparent while stating that the party would win the governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

ReplyDeleteA party that claims to be a National Party but have it's 36 top executives from a particular believe.
Don't say i am a begot, think first. What if it's top party executive is the reverse as in the case of APC.
So,what kind of policy do we expect in Osun state from an APC government.
We the people of this state and region have never experience violence in the name of religion.
Many were of the opinion that the merging of the CPC and the ACN must have given birth to this extrem political views.
However,Nigerians are afraid ........................I stand to be corrected
Former Gov. Tinubu is only there to make his political campaign not really for the peace of the people of the area. I hope they mean well for the common masses.
ReplyDeleteAnything involving Tinubu is fraud
