Sanusi's suspension is a ploy to scuttle probe of missing $20billion - Fashola

Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola (SAN) has questioned the suspension of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor Lamido Sanusi Lamido.

The governor said the timing of President Goodluck Jonathan’s action with the ongoing audit of the missing $20 billion from the coffers of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) was a ploy to jeopardise the conclusion of the audit.

He said: “Our money was devalued by four points immediately. I don’t understand their economic strategy. If the man is going in June, there must be a sense in the messaging about executive tampering with the independence of the CBN.

“This has economic consequences for investors. This isn’t a suspension but a sack. This is because there was no power to sack him. And they have considered the implication. That’s why they said he should go on suspension.

“For me, really, if someone in the government says some money is missing and, without concluding any investigation, they suspended the person who blew the whistle, then something must be wrong.

“It is when the audit is concluded that they can decide on what to do to the man. But now, before the completion of the audit, they have sacked the man who alerted the head of the government to the fact that some money is missing.

“So, what message is the Presidency sending out to Nigerians on corruption and others who may want to reveal any atrocity committed in the country? The message the Presidency is sending out is that Nigerians should keep quiet whenever they see any corruption perpetrated in the country. That is not a good sign for the economy.”

  2. Abeg make we hear word Gov. A group has been asking you to provide them with books on figures spent on education since your administration began and you have consistently refused so much so that they have gone to court. We all know he has been working for apc all along. If the man has been reckless with our funds then let him carry his cross. He who blew the whistle without an concrete evidence but also lives in a glass should have known what was coming. You guys can make him your presidential candidate no wahala

  3. What Mesg? We know the message! Even if its not pronounced, their body languages concludes the fact that this is a government that promotes, harbor or encourage corruption! Stop there! b4 u guys crucified me for saying ur president is corrupt u need to know dt I'm neither an APC person or a PDP person I just reason based on the facts available also checking from alaMeisigha issue, oduagate case, kerosine subsidy scandal, ibu the rivers state terror, awarding juicy contracts to Militants(pipe line protection), uneven mathematics/ calculations ( 4>16 or is it 20> 100(which remains un corrected till date), unable to prosecute or jail any high profiled corrupt individual till date(despite the fact that some were caught in the act, we ve had it all or is it the pension thief! that he's yet to be prosecuted! Al though GEJ might had good some achievements but been unable to tackle corruption promptly and timely makes all this so called achievements amounts to NOTHING!! How can any country develops or forge ahead when corruption abounds? Its impossible! Some says we are all corrupt, its in our blood but if we have a serious minded person as this country president, this corrupt blood can be flushed out or replaced at least we are not born with it.

    Be wise.

    Mark.

  4. Mr governor you probably have not read the letter of suspension. The allegations therein was unbecoming of a cbn governor. He did badly and has left as the worst cbn governor ever. It is unfortunate how political interest is eroding your intergrity as a person. Its unfortunate that u see goo and call it bad.
