In an interview with CNBC Africa this morning, Sansui Lamido Sanusi, who currently in Niger Republic attending an official ECOWAS event, says he will challenge his suspension.
Sanusi tells CNBC Africa
"I have been told by my office that a letter was received. As you know, I flew in this morning to Niamey along with other Governors of West African Central Banks to meet with the President of Niger and President of Ghana. Fortunately, I came in with my VP Sarah Alade whom I have been asked to hand over to. I have left the meeting to hand over to her. I have just met the Nigerian Ambassador to Niger who confirmed to me that the President asked him to inform me of the decision.

About financial misconduct and recklessness he's being accused of...
"I don’t know what they are talking about. When I come back, I will see what those allegations are. I don’t think there is any issue raised that has not been raised before. We all know what this is about. This is about consequences for decisions I have taken. This is something that is long overdue. I am surprised it took them so long.
When asked whether his suspension is politically motivated, he said
I think the answer to that is obvious. There is a legal question of whether the president has the authority to suspend the Governor and whether suspension is not removal. It will be helpful to establish the principles by court.
Even if I challenge it, I will not go back to the job. Even if I challenge it successfully, I will not go back to it. I think it will be in the interest of the institution for the courts to establish once and for all if the president has the powers to do this. If it is not challenged, the next Central Bank Governor cannot be independent with fear of being suspended by a politician. I do plan to have the courts confirm if indeed that authority exists and I will challenge it.

ReplyDeleteSanusi, you sins are many. U have batterd the economy u were meant to protect. You are inconsistent as inconsistency. We are better without u as the cbn governor. U know little but talk too much.
ReplyDeleteHis suspension has long overdue. Anyway, is better to be late than never and my advice for him instead of heading to court to challenge his suspension he should rather go to HELL!!!
ReplyDeleteWell you can go to court and at the end settle out of court as with the alleged plagiarism case. Buy the way why should a Central Bank Governor be speaking from two sides of the mouth or is this politices he is playing with a nations financial system. Why would he jump out and say that a certain amount was lost only to come back and say that it was not the same amount again. This is childish and unbecoming of a CB governor.such is suicidal in accounting and auditing,
ReplyDeleteThanks Nigerians, Sanusi has been suspended. Whether he did well or not as a CBN Gorvernor, Nigerians who have concience will judge now or later. But, Sanusi or no Sanusi, the missing $20 billion from the sales of crude oil by NNPC must be unravelled. Many Nigerians knows that he was suspended because of his revealations about the shady deals of NNPC. May God disgrace all those who are compounding Nigerian problems with corruption. God bless Nigeria.
ReplyDeleteSomebody is telling you that your properties/entitlement are missing unlawfully from somebody you entrusted them with.Instead of you to listen and backed him you are saying he dosent get right the actual lost properties. Its just bcos you are covered with cobwebs. Please rise from your slumber.think of your coming generation and stop taking bride that will not last.
ReplyDeleteThat's a very good decision, the Court will determine if the president had the power to suspend a C B N Gov. The out come will now protect C B N from corrupt politicians. It be a profound Judicial precedent.
ReplyDeleteNigeria as a nation cannot move forward if we have people who cannot stand or speak the truth. Sanusi has done creditably well as the CBN Governor. Only time would tell as the president is hell bent on returning back to Aso rock in 2015. Sanusi or no Sanusi the looting in NNPC and other government institutions continues under Jonathan.
