Sanusi blew the whistle late — Pastor Bakare

The General Overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly and Convener of Save Nigeria Group, Tunde Bakare, has said that the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi acted too late in blowing the whistle on the un-remitted $20 billion dollars of the $67 billion that accrued to the country from crude shipped by Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation(NNPC) between January 2012 and July 2013.

The former Vice Presidential candidate under the Congress for Progressive Change, made the statement in a speech delivered at today’s sermon held at The Latter Rain Assembly, Lagos, Nigeria.

He equated Sanusi current travails to that of a farmer who fails to apprehend the thief on his farm in time, thereby allowing the thief to turn around to label the farm owner the thief instead.

Noting that the lateness has resulted in the whistle blower becoming an object of persecution, he averred that for the SNG, it is better late than never and the group would always be on the side of truth.

“Nevertheless, it is better late than never. Now that the whistle has been blown and the blower has become the object of persecution, we remain where we have always been – on the side of God and on the side of truth and we stand by those who pitch their tent on this side.

“We will not shoot the wounded righteous soldier. In the midst of persecution, wounded they may be, let them rest on this side knowing the arc of the moral universe may be long but it bends towards justice,” the Pastor turn politician said.

Bakare said when Save Nigeria Group raised the bar during the last fuel subsidy protest and maintained that government-backed corruption fuelled by NNPC was the main issue, a corroborating voice from the now ousted CBN Governor, would have added weight to the outcry.

He however said Sanusi is courageous, in the view that few men of aristocratic background would speak out against profligacy and monetary imprudence especially among the legislators and sometimes among the executives.

“Perhaps, no serving government official has been as outspoken against misgovernance as the suspended CBN Governor, however, when the CBN, the Ministry Finance, the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, the PPPRA, the NNPC and other agencies provided conflicting figures as to actual subsidy payments to the Adhoc committee on the management of fuel subsidy, that may have been the opportune time to blow the whistle,” he said.

Quoting the Holy Bible in Proverbs 11:21, “though hand joins in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.”

He therefore urged that despite his travails, however severe it may become in the days ahead, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi should remember the words of William Cullen Bryant,” Truth crushed to earth, shall rise again, th’ eternal years of God are hers; but error, wounded, writhes in pain, and dies among his worshippers,” he concluded.

  1. Bakere or whatever they call you...can you just say something sensible for once! Why all these foolish sentiments from aher fellows! Mehn! I can't believe this! Did you at all read the Financial Reporting Council. Of Nigeria report on Sanusi!!? I'm not holding brief for anybody! But really am utterly disappointed with all you noise makers! Shut your craps and criticise constructively! What's your say now that Sanusi used 9.4 billion for travels un 2012!? When Jonathan budgeted 2.4 billion for travel expenses you were shouting wolf! What's your take on Sanusi using 20 billion on legal and professional fee!? Is the central bank fighting with the whole of Nigeria in court!? How about 12 billion on promotional fee..? Are they in contests with first bank, zenith bank, uba or Federal Reserve Bank of America! This whole thing baffles me! When will this charade stop!!? Odua spent 255 million naira that was not appropriated for and we all where shouting kill her kill her! When a single person without approval dolled out 10 billion to Uthman Dan fodio university, 4 billion to Bayero University Kano and the story goes on and on! And you're here with such an effrontery! I really wish this nation will just split so that each zone goes and fights it off on themselves! That's only when these abnormallies will end! It's only healthy competition that can stop all these deceit from all of you! Kindly say something that is reasonable for once! I plead with you...or alternativly don't day at all so that we wouldn't have the opportunity to makeconclusion on your person. Making these statements erases any doubt I may have of you!

    1. u see my point above, it's very impossible for Nigeria to stand as one! the earlier we stop deceiving ourselves, the better for us all. me for one am not in interested in this one Nigeria marriage, we should all split and stay alive and stop being suspicious of each other. and stop clamoring for Islamic state or Christian state. that's my take on this!

  9. On the comments of following Pastor Adeboye or Kumuyi.......u have only introduce sentiments.Politics is part of Religion. The Bible says ''if the righteous are in power, the people rejoice''. Let me tell you everyone has is own calling......watch your mouth on saying any negative things against a man of God..i beg you avoid God wrath.

  10. Finally, there is a proverb that says ''a witch cries yesterday and the child dies today, Everyone knows that it's the witch that cries yesterday that kills the child''.There is a lot of secret you don't know about this our so called leaders......why not all dis allegation against Sanusi be Published before he exposed the NNPC...and just after his exposition the Governor was suspended. And even the Suspension is unlawful.....hope you remember the story of Justice Ayo Salami

  12. Sanusi should go and sit down. They provided millons of naira as kerosene subsidy but an average nigeria has never bought kero for N50 a litre instead N110 and the day NNPC Mega stations will sell, the staffs will do there own racket by collecting N250 for every gallon of 25 litres before u can buy at N50. Shame to you Sanusi and the rest of your likes David Mark and co

Sanusi spend recklessly in given donation to schools. Yes! But were the student of the schools not Nigerians? Or is because the school is in the North? Are we saying there are no student from other part of country in those school? Ok if he spend it on OAU or UNIBEN it wuld have been ok Abi? Naija! When are going to stop deceiving ourselves! Fi ete sile ma pa lapa lapa! Ignoring leprosy and hussling to cure ringworm! Odun Tutu

  15. Every one of them will definately have skeletons in their cupboard, but I want u to know that sanusi claims to have written approval from GEJ on the donations he made, and I believe he is not the father of all d beneficiaries of the donations(student) if he concentrates on the north, don't we have other top Govt officials who hails from south, east and west who can do same in their zone of origin? He had been doing all dis for yrs nobody said anytin until now that he questioned $20b misappropraition? But dat doesn't make him a saint. They all knw wat dey r doing. D average man is @ d receiving end.
