The House of Representatives on Wednesday in Abuja mandated the Committee on Ethics and Privileges to investigate bribery allegation against some members of the House who defected to the PDP.
The committee is to report back to the House in two weeks.
Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the APC Interim Spokesman, had alleged that members of the House of Representatives were offered millions of dollars by the PDP leaders to defect to the party.
This resolution followed a motion moved by Rep. Kingsley Chinda (PDP-Rivers) which was unanimously adopted without debate.
According to Chinda, the allegation is not only a breach of his privilege, but also against the integrity and image of members of the House.
He said that Mohammed should be called upon to substantiate the allegation attributed to him.
The legislator urged the House to move to ensure that the public did not have a wrong perception about it.
“Let us not take this as if it is a political issue. It has to do with our integrity and image before the electorate.
“What we should do is to get to the root of this matter so that the truth will be known,” he said.
In a reaction, Rep. Leo Ogor (PDP-Delta), the Deputy Majority Leader, described the APC bribery allegation as unfortunate.
“It is very unfortunate that APC today is singing a different tune. They are now finding themselves where they actually belong.
He said that members who were elected by their constituents swore to an oath to come and represent them in the House.
“Our oath of allegiance is to defend the constitution and serve the Nigerian people, not serving political interest of some political parties,”he said.
