PDP blasts APC for hiring Obama’s former consultant

The Peoples Democratic Party on Wednesday expressed shock over the announcement by the All Progressives Congress that it had engaged the services of a foreign firm, AKPD Message and Media, to boost its electoral chances in 2015.

The ruling party called on Nigerians to resist this because it was an attempt by the opposition party to throw the nation back to imperialism 54 years after independence.

It will be recalled that the APC had claimed in a statement signed by its Acting National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, that the appointment of the consultant, who had worked for the election of the President of the United States of America, President Barak Obama, was aimed at raising the electoral chances of the party.

But a statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, said the action was a clear justification of its stand that the APC was anti-Nigeria.

Metuh said, “In engaging the services of a foreign firm, the APC has shown that it does not have faith in our people, our indigenous consultancy firms and the teeming well qualified, world-acclaimed Nigerian professionals and technocrats.

“Just as the leopard cannot change its spots, so also is the APC unable to hide its true colour as an anti-people organisation, tied to the apron string of foreign interests in utter disdain for fellow Nigerians and the age-long clamour for local content.”

He alleged that the APC had an inner contempt for Nigerians, adding that its latest action was not only an affront on nationalism but a weird embrace of neo-colonialism at a time national pride and assertiveness had assumed a rule of engagement in global politics.

He said, “We are afraid that neo-colonialism is the guiding ethos of the APC’s quest to rule Nigeria. It is now apparent that the leadership of this opposition party may have perfected plans to use some foreign interests to siphon national resources and reverse the pro-national socio-economic foundation laid by the founding fathers of Nigeria.”

Metuh said there was no way the APC could justify its action, which he termed as a crime against the Nigerian people.

He said, “Nigerians are discerning enough to see the clever attempt to cover this monumental insult by dropping the name of President Obama, who was duly re-elected by the popular votes of the people of the United States as a beneficiary of this consultancy service.”

Also, the umbrella body of public relations firms in Nigeria, Public Relations Consultants Association of Nigeria, has criticised the APC for hiring US-based firm to manage the party’s campaign for the 2015 general elections.

In a press statement jointly signed by the association’s President, Chido Nwankanma and Publicity Secretary, Israel Jaiye Opayemi, PRCAN said that there were peculiar issues in the nation that only local firms could understand.

  1. As for me Nigerians' knows what they want, if they like let them hire Obama himself to come and campaign for APC, it simply shows that they are "do or die party" they want to rule Nigerians by all means with their evil purpose, they want to unseat and bring the government of Jonathan down by all forces that is why all these distractions, using boko haram to threatening his government for people to condemn him, so that people can buy their own idea to suit their purpose, I tell you Nigerians knows their intention and their coney way to rule by fire by force, for majority says No to them.

  2. my dear nigerians, this is to sound a note of warning as to what APC is doing. I know Jonathan' administration is not the best but lets not jump from a hot pot to the fire. There are people fighting against jonathan, frustrating his efforts and making him look bad before nigeria just for their own political ambitions. Dont be suprise that they even finance the problems we are facing currently in nigeria and even take counsel with those who have no regards for ourculture but would rather introduce same sex. Beware nigerians, a wolf well known is better than a wolf in sheep clothing

  4. Methu, What is your problem with APC's decissions? If you and your party members are afraid, come out and stop pretending that you have Nigerians in mind!. Where are your children studying? Is there no competent lecturers in Nigeria that can train your children?.

  7. APC can hire whoever they want to run their campaign. Which is better, competence or incompetence? Imperialism? What a nonsense. Who runs the oil industry in Nigeria, the economic hub of the country? It's all foreign (Shell, Agip, etc), yet we don't describe this as imperialism. The local content of the country is all about corruption, theft, thuggery, incompetence, etc. So, change is welcome. PDP should stop screaming like a bunch of children. Nationalism? How can you claim nationalism when all you do is steal from the people, loot the treasury, sack the CBN governor because he exposes evil, to name just a few vices. The country is overdue for new management. Nigerians should wake up and realise that there's no future for the country under the corruption lord called PDP. I don't belong to APC but the country needs change. Any thing but PDP should be the new slogan. PDP should be dumped in the dust bin of history. They have ruined the country enough.

  9. you people are calling the name of party as if it an individual names. Look at APC today, they are full of old members of PDP. if APC is going begging PDP member to come and join them. The so call people that destroy PDP and allow people to call the party names are now sponsor-er and fathers in APC. Who are we deceived. To me APC = PDP. APC New , PDP and experience. I still prefer old and experience than APC that has no agenda, no manifestos, no vision, no structure. They are making noises every day that they want to unseat Jonathan, and they has no Presidential candidate. They are begging PDP card carrying to come and contest in APC, what is the different. Tambuwa, Atiku, Sule Lamido, Kwaasoso, Babajida Aliyu etc. other s are Saraki(8 yrs PDP Gov.), Amechi ( 7 yrs PDP Gov), and the host of others that have cross to APC. is APC as a party want to wash away their blood and memory. All these people have spent years in leadership in PDP and they are the people U refered to as Nigerian destroyers. To me, PDP is more sanitised than APC, because the so call people that destroy PDP today are now full member of APC. Nigerian Beware! What audacity is Atiku has to be taking about PDP after spend 90 of his political life in that party as a leader and No 2 citizen. U will be refer to full if U still call PDP names with the crops of PDP now in APC. APC is even fight for PDP member to defect to their party. What a shame.

  10. The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, said the action of the APC in hiring AKPD Message and Media to help make them more electable is a return to colonialism and anti-Nigeria. I am apolitical but this man regularly talks a lot of nonsense. To think this is the caliber of politicians aspiring to Govern Nigeria makes you wonder.

The world is now a Global village where each country casts its net wide to recruit the best person or people for important or highly technical jobs. For example despite the abundance of expert and highly respected Economists in the UK, the Government recently appointed a Canadian as the Governor of the Bank of England. the man is highly qualified and has done the same job very successfully as Governor of the Canadian Central Bank. Not a voice was raised in opposition to the appointment in the country. Does this make the UK a colony of Canada? Mr Metuh would probably think so as his mentality is underdeveloped to understand the workings of modern developing countries.

Another reason the PDP would oppose the appointment of foreign experts is that such experts would not stand by and watch corrupt Nigerian politicians and officials steal from the Nation and wreck their good work and hard earned reputations.

The 'President' Mr Goodluck sacked the Governor of the Central Bank and appointed a career banker to replace him instead of a distinguished economist who would be able to use his expertise to oversee the successful running of Nigerian wide economy like other civilised countries do. The man Jonathan has employed is a career banker and business man who will only have a very narrow v view of the economy except where it affects the Banking sector which is his only area of expertise.
