Nigerian Army better equipped than Boko Haram —Ex-SSS director

A former Director of the State Security Service, Mr. Mike Ejiofor, has faulted the claim of the Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima, that Boko Haram insurgents were better armed and motivated than Nigerian troops.

Shettima reportedly made the claim following a series of Boko Haram attacks that left over 100 people dead in his state. He also said Nigeria was in a state of war.

Reacting to Shettima’s statement, Ejiofor said it was sad that such a statement was made by the state governor.

He said, “I don’t agree with Shettima. He is the chief security officer of that state. Even if the situation is so bad that it cannot be managed, he should be in a position, as a leader, to motivate people. I believe that the statement was made out of frustration. It was made either out of mischief or lack of knowledge, or a combination of both.

“There is no way he can compare the motivation of our trained military personnel with that of untrained insurgents, who are out to destroy the economy, with no defined objectives.”

Ejiofor added that Boko Haram was a political creation and urged the governor to find political solutions to the problem by talking to the leaders of the Boko Haram sect, who live among the people.

Ejiofor said the recent attacks by Boko Haram were out of frustration, and they were signs that insurgency would soon end.

  1. This shameless ex-straggler should have mentioned even one successful counter insurgency operation against BH by the military in the last 2 years aside from the modest gains of the civilian JTF which itself is an indictment againt the military.

  3. The ex spy goon is more ignorant and mischievous than the governor who is on ground and knows where it pinches. He will help a lot if he can go to these flash points in Borno State and gather information on Boko Haram tactics so as to contain them, given his experience as a spy.
