Gunmen kill 22 persons in fresh Plateau attack

Less than 48 hours after 30 people were killed in two communities of Riyom LGA of Plateau State, no fewer than 22 persons have been killed when unknown gunmen, suspected to be Fulani herdsmen, attacked communities in Mavo village of Wase Local Government.
About 10 houses were also burnt in the attack, said to have occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning
An eyewitness said the gunmen stormed the villages at about 2am.
Our correspondent also gathered that this development had created tension in Wase town as youths of the community started a protest against the killings but were repelled by security operatives
An eyewitness, who gave his name as Nangak, said the attackers came to the village in their hundreds and started shooting sporadically
Wase LGA had been under attacks for a long time as the Taroh and Fulani in the area had been at loggerheads over a period of time.
The latest incident occurred after some army units were said to have carried out an exercise in the area
The interim administrator of the LGA, Mr. Zakari Haruna, who spoke to newsmen on the telephone, confirmed the attack.
He said peace had been restored to the community, but declined to give the number of persons killed in the attack.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state.Felicia Anselm, confirmed the attack but said she had not been fully briefed on those killed.
