Fire has been reported at the Ibadan branch of Zenith Bank at J. Allen, Dugbe.
NigerianEYE gathered that the incident disrupted the operations for some hours and caused gridlock on the two roads leading to the bank.
The state Police Command Public
Relations Officer, Olabisi Ilobanafor, said there was no casualty in the
incident. She explained that the fire started around 8am, adding that
men of the state fire service were able to put it out after two hours.
She said policemen were deployed in the area to ensure that the incident
was not hijacked by hoodlums.
Apart from the effort of the state fire
service, a water tanker from SUMAL Foods was also on standby to help
fight the inferno. Normalcy returned about 9.45 am.
One of the workers of the bank, who did
not give his name because he was not authorised to speak on the matter,
told our correspondent that the fire started soon after the usual
morning meeting at the conference room located on the first floor. He
said smoke was first noticed before it developed into a huge fire.
“After the meeting, we were preparing to
begin banking operation for the day when the alarm sounded. There was
commotion in the banking hall as most of us left the building without
our belongings.
“We cannot say what caused the fire, but
I smelt burning electrical cables before I left the building. So it
could be an electrical fault. “ he said.
