Archbishop Desmond Tutu equates gay discrimination to apartheid

Anglican Archbishop Desmond Tutu of South Africa on Monday in Cape Town equating discrimination against gay people to the horrors of Nazi Germany and apartheid era in South Africa

He was critisising the Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni over his plan to approve controversial anti-homosexuality laws.

“We must be entirely clear about this, the history of people is littered with attempts to legislate against love or marriage across class, caste, and race.”

He said there was no scientific basis or genetic rationale for love as, there was only the grace of God.

“There is no scientific justification for prejudice and discrimination, ever, nor is there any moral justification. Nazi Germany and apartheid South Africa, among others, attest to these facts,”he said.

Tutu urged Museveni to use the debate to strengthen the culture of human rights and justice in Uganda, and clamp down on sexual exploitation rather than orientation.

Two weeks ago, Museveni told members of his governing party he would sign the bill, passed by parliament late last year, prescribing life imprisonment for homosexuality.

Museveni has come under fire from UNAIDS which warned that Uganda’s progress in tackling the country’s HIV epidemic could be reversed if the law is passed.

  3. Mr President,
God will definitely back you if you make a decision for Him/Let UNAIDS turn their back because you are signing anti-gay into law in Uganda/
The voice of Almighty God is speaking through Ugandans and the Parliament/Don't let God forsake your country because of an advertently wrong step/

Be strong, and fight against unrighteousness/

    Sign that BILL NoW!

  4. Bishop pls dont distort clear biblical injunction that absolutely condemn gay practices. Since you are at the departure lounge awaiting your boarding pass, when you take your flight to the great beyond, you can then question God for making such a 'discrimatory' rule, that is, if he finds himself anywhere near God's presence

  5. Desmond Tutu's brain and other SA leaders like him have been used for experiment by the whites during apartheid. He needs pity and rehabilitation to come to his normal senses.

  9. Yes I Belive the Bible
Yes Homosexuality is not of God
    Yes I condemn the practice
Yet we need to nip it in the bud by protecting our children and fighting exploitation.
The Question is ......do u support rounding up all Gay & Lesb and burn them all in the market square?
Maybe you think Jesus will give u a pat on the back for that. Our understanding of the way of God is shallow. In as much as we dont condone such practices, we need to be careful how we throw the stones. May we all receive the grace to trully attain the mind of christ....Amen

  10. @anonymous 10.56pm. Yes jesus if you are without sin, cast the first stone. Of course nobody did. In as much as we need ti respect a persons right to exist, a vice like lesbianism snd homosexuality should not be celebrated or should I say annouced. We don't want to know them. Please do those things behind closed doors. Do have to come out anytime you meet your patner and annouce the sodid details to the world? Just to tell us you are virile?..what am saying in essence is, gays don't need to announce it especially here in africa. Or bear the consequences. This jungle justice is synonimous with us. Thieves face this brutality also. Who cries foul.?

  11. 9ja eyes!!! I said it time- after- time and you good guys repeatedly suspended me from this site. It is unfair doing this to me for the fact that I always get truths articulated; truth is bitter but it must be uttered and understood no matter what its temperature might be, we should please be always considering other people’s sensations and interests.

I am not a clergy man but a normal believer who strongly belief in oneness of God and equally belief in the spirit of Africanism; no matter what. I will fight for the black emancipations with the last drop of my blood (not be today).

I strongly belief that homosexuality is a crime before God however, I am not a God to judge neither you aren't a God to judge. I am married because I like having children but some don't like having children and they detest marrying opposite sex so what is my business or our business over there? You can't decide for anybody. We have some men of God like catholic fathers’ and sisters who have made up their minds not to marry so why can't we force them to marry so as to avoid human extinction? There are Nigerians who have married and agreed with their partners not to have children so why can’t you wage war against them?

Someone makes up his mind to marry his fellow man we all condemn them it is unfair. Please don’t judge nor condemning them but try to educate them on the cultural and spiritual implication of the bad habits but if the person refuses please let it be.

I am sure; many Nigerians must be against me but please try to think about it.

  12. We should not hide under the canopy of "though shall not jugde" to commit crime. Same bible said " should we continue in sin so that God's grace may abound" OR should we not correct our children bcos we don't want to judge? Gay is wrong so let's say NO to LGBT
