Barring any last minute change, the All Progressives Congress will announce the number of Nigerians, who successfully registered as its members, next week.
Our correspondent gathered in Abuja, on Sunday, that although returns were still being collated from states, the compilation of figures already received had begun.
It was further learnt that the party hierarchy was excited because, according to members, the week-long exercise surpassed earlier projections.
The APC earlier said it set out to register 12million members but had to extend the exercise by two days when it discovered that many people had not registered.
According to the APC timetable, the return of membership duplicate cards is to end on February 18.
When contacted, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, confirmed expectations that the figures could be ready next week.
He said, “Remember we have about 120 polling units nationwide, we expect figures from each of them before making it public. We expect it to be ready next week.”
According to him, the APC is aware that Nigerians have accepted the party as the agent of change that the country needs.
He also explained that the party was compelled to extend the registration exercise by two days when it became obvious that it under-estimated the number of those eager to register as its members.
The National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Olisa Metuh, had in a statement, alleged that the PDP uncovered a plot by the APC to come up with bogus figures as the number of its members. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
