If Asari-Dokubo is not above the law, SSS must arrest him now —APC

The All Progressives Congress has described as “reckless, irresponsible and totally condemnable the threat by Mujahedeen Asari-Dokubo to levy war against Nigeria even if President Goodluck Jonathan is defeated even in a free and fair election in 2015.

In a statement in Abuja on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said despite the attacks by oil militants in the Niger Delta and the ongoing insurgency by Boko Haram in some parts of the North, Nigeria had not witnessed a clearer and louder call to war than Asari-Dokubo’s “senseless vituperation” since the country’s civil war ended in 1970.

It said Nigerians were waiting to see what the State Security Service, which recently detained for 15 hours the APC’s Deputy National Secretary, Nasir El-Rufai, over his warning against election rigging in 2015, would do to Asari-Dokubo for threatening “the very existence of Nigeria.”

The party alleged that ex-Niger Delta warlord vowed that “he and his fellow militants” would cripple the economy of the country not only in the creeks but also in Nigeria’s territorial waters.

APC said, “What on earth gave Asari-Dokubo the confidence to issue threats against a whole nation? If he doesn’t care about elections and democracy, how else could his hero, President Jonathan, have come to power? Does he know the meaning of anarchy? Does he think anyone, no matter how big, is more important than his country or bigger than its constitution?

”When he said President Jonathan ‘must complete the mandatory constitutionally-allowable two terms of eight years’ or the militants will make Nigeria ungovernable, was he aware that even the North that has become his favourite whipping boy did not complete its own eight years before his kinsman became President?

”It is not Asari-Dokubo’s fault. When we warned against the handing over of the nation’s maritime security to a company owned by an ex-militant in 2012, many thought we were crying wolf where none existed. But the threat by an ex-militant to ensure that no vessel will be allowed to enter the nation’s territorial waters unless President Jonathan is re-elected has shown the dangers inherent in such actions.”

  5. Lai and his leaders have said worst things against the country. Who arrested who? If Asari is a member of APC wouldn't u see it as his right to freedom of speech. If u don't know u are the one beating the drum of war not Asari

  6. For the avoidance of doubt, Asari Dokubo has not issued any threat rather he had made a promise that must be fulfilled. Am afraid that the security operatives will have their hands full when the time comes. Make no mistakes about what you have read. This is a balance to the threats issued by some northern political elites in the time past-to make the country ungovernable. A promise that has been kept to the letters. What Asari is trying to communicate is that if the country has been ungovernable under a candidate from the south-south then it will be even more for any candidate from the north. It is high time our northern brother began to tolerate other people from other zones of the country. We are made sick each time we hear our brothers from the north say things like 'the north will do this, the north will do that or the north will not agree to this or that' We from other zones want to know what informed such audacity without a fair consideration for the feelings and general aspiration of the nation as whole. If you have any beef with Asari Dokubo, go and sort it out with him but he has spoken the mind of an average south-south people. Please give us a break.

    1. Initially I did not want to join issues with Asari b'cos of his thuggery and violent postures, but when people like you that supposed to see beyond your nose fail to, then we shall be forced to say something.
To say that Nigeria will break up if Jonathan looses in a free and fair elections is unpatriotic and annoying and an insult to the sensibility and corporate co existence of Nigeria.
This should be roundly condemned by any right thinking Nigerian, even though I am from the South.
No sentiment please,we all need to be objective here.

  10. I am totally not in support of Asari Dokubo's threats. However, it is important to note that before GEJ came to power, certain important voices from the North issued thesame threat which eventually gave birth to the mass slaughter of innocent Youth Corpers in the North after his election and now the monster called Boko Haram. After his election, Northerners like El-Rufai, Atiku, Malam Ango Abdullahi, Buhari, and indeed the APC have continued to taunt GEJ, hauling abuses at him like he is a no body. All these abuses and threats will not do this country any good, and it is high time these people realise this. Hate only begets hate, and that is what is gradually happening. If we all claim to be civilized, we should use the right channels available within the limits of the law to air our greviances. I am sure if the Northerners I mentioned earlier had been more civil in their manner of drawing the presidents attention to his failings, Asari would have thought twice before speaking so thoughtlessly about the peace and unity of this country. That haven been said, Asari should be called to order by the authorities as quickly as possible. If GEJ ignores this, it will count against him in a very bad way.
