United States has said that its condemnation of gay marriage law in Nigeria and other African countries does not amount to interference.
The action, according to Linda Thomas-Greenfield, US Assistant Secretary of State for Africa is to ensure that people under whatever guise were not denied their human rights.
Thomas-Greenfield, who spoke on Tuesday during the live-web chat monitored in Abuja, said US will continue to impress it on the government and the legislators on the need to give everyone equal opportunity.
She noted that US is just against legislations that is targeted against gay people.
The Assistant Secretary of State also insisted that American government supports human rights for all the people.
She said, ” As a policy we will continue to press the government of Nigeria and other governments and the legislature to change this law and provide human rights to all Nigerians regardless of their sexual orientation.’’ Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

This yeye US can not press Nigeria to stop mass corruption, to stop oppressing and infridging on the right of nigerians to unnterrupted power supply, smooth education, maintain sovereignty and so on; but they can defend the rights of a man sleeping with another.

ReplyDeleteU guys condemning gays should know that they didn't just chopose to be gays. It should be understood from that angle. We should rather be pathetic to them for that natural tendencies or propensity. Most of u guys may not know that some of ur loved ones are gays. I know of one man who publicly supports d anti gay law and d extra judicial killings of those perceived to be gays, mostly in d north. Unfortunately for ds man, his first son is gay, unknown to him. Please let's approach d issue with caution. UK once acted like ds, but when it dawned on them, they saw d need to decriminalize their anti gay law
