Victims of the January 6 attack on Shonong villages of Bachit district of Riyom Local Government area of Plateau have given a heart-rendering account of how they were attacked by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
No fewer than 33 people, mostly women and children, were mauled down in cold blood by the marauding herdsmen. They were given mass burial on Tuesday last week.
A community leader in the area, Mr. Yohana Dangyang, alleged that soldiers, deployed in the area, watched gleefully as their wives and children were being massacred by the insurgents.
Speaking to newsmen after receiving relief materials from the Interim Administrator of Riyom Local Government area, Mr Sandah Matawal, and some officials of the State Emergency Management Agency, Dangyang, said even the leader of the soldiers did not order his men to come to the aid of the people.
He lamented that 23 people were locked up in a building by the alleged Fulani attackers before setting the building ablaze, adding that all the 23 people were burnt beyond recognition. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
