President Goodluck Jonathan’s official photographer, Mr. Callistus Ewelike, who was shot by a yet-to-be identified gunman in Abuja last Monday has undergone a successful surgery.
The surgery carried out to remove the bullet lodged at a spot close to his shoulder was done by a team of medical experts at the National Hospital, Abuja on Friday.
Ewelike is currently recuperating at the same hospital.
Our correspondent who visited the hospital on Saturday, could not see him as he was said to be sleeping.
He was full of life when he spoke with our correspondent on the telephone on Friday shortly before the surgery.
“I am ok, after all, I am the one speaking with you now. The doctors are are really trying. Very soon, I will be taken in (to the theatre) for the surgery,” he had said.
His elder brother, Livinus, who was one of those attending to him in the hospital, also confirmed that he was in a stable condition.
A family source told our correspondent on Sunday that Ewelike was in good shape.
The photojournalist with the News Agency of Nigeria who is currently acting as the President’s photographer was shot at a close range in front of his house in Nyanya in the outskirts of the Federal Capital Territory between 10pm and 11pm last Monday.
He was returning to his house after the day’s work when the incident happened.
Ewelike was rushed by his neighbours to a nearby private clinic from where he was referred to the National Hospital, Abuja. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
