Rivers State University expels 588 students for poor performance

No fewer than 588 students have been expelled from the Rivers State University of Science and Technology over poor academic performance.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Barineme Fakae, disclosed this during the institution’s 32nd matriculation in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.

Fakae explained that the students, who could not get the required grade in their class work, were advised to leave RSUST at the end of the 2012/2013 academic session.

Warning that the Senate of the university would sanction any erring student, Fakae told the freshers that the university had maintained zero tolerance for examination malpractices and other social vices.
The VC said, “Inculcate the habit of using the library and ensure that you attend lectures at all times, as absenteeism may result in failure and consequently lead to withdrawal from the institution.

“For your information, at the end of last session (2012/2013), five hundred and eighty-eight (588) students were asked to withdraw due to academic failure.

“We (RSUST) do not compromise standards because our vision and values must continue to be held in high esteem.”
He congratulated the new intakes on their success in the JAMB and post-UTME.

  1. I hope the parents of the 588 were informed, to prevent these students from parading themselves as students.

  2. Parents Should ask to see their children's result at the end of every Session. It is available online and the children have the password to access their results. If Their names are not online, then they have been WAF ed

  3. †Ñ’ξ names of †Ñ’ξ students should be published on any of †Ñ’ξ dalies so that parents will be aware.

  4. Students are gifted with skill of deceiving their parents & guardians. So, publishing their names (WAF victims) online will solve the mistery.
