Popular BBC Broadcaster Komla Dumor Dies At 41


Komla Dumor, a popular Ghanaian broadcaster on BBC has died. Mr. Dumor died of heart attack in his London home on Saturday January 18 according to the director of BBC Global News, Peter Horrocks.


The BBC anchor believed in an Africa beyond the stereotyped images shown in the media.

Several mourners have said that Africa lost a great representative in Mr. Dumor.

Dumor was based in London where he was the main anchor of the BBC show, “Focus on Africa.” He began working for the BBC in 2003,first as a broadcaster for the radio show “Network Africa.” Prior to that, he worked for ten years in his native Ghana, where he had been awarded the Journalist of the Year Award in 2003. Aside from his presence on “Focus of Africa,” he is known for his TEDxEuston talk titled, “Telling the African Story.”

A variety of fans and media personalities have taken to Twitter to express their shock at his sudden passing, including CNN’s Errol Barnett, Nigerian publisher and journalist Dele Momodu and Ghanaian musician, Sarkodie.
