Police arrest 12 robbery suspects in Ekiti

The Ekiti State Police Command said on Thursday that it arrested 12 robbery suspects terrorising residents in some parts of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the Command, Mr. Victor Babayemi (ASP), who spoke during the parade of the suspects at the Command headquarters in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, said the suspects were arrested between December 2013 and mid-January.
Items that were recovered from the robbers were different types of fire arms, 20 laptop computers, 30 mobile handsets, 52 pairs of women shoes/slippers, 49 shirts, 40 pairs of jean trousers, women hand bags and wallets.
Among the suspects was 35-year-old Tunde Ojo, who was reportedly arrested at Emure-Ekiti.
The suspect was said to have raped his victim after dispossessing her of her belongings.
A commercial motorcyclist, Daramola Ogunbolade, 19, was also reportedly arrested. The PPRO said Ogunbolade’s stock in trade was to convey his passengers through secluded areas with a view to robbing them of their belongings at gunpoint.
He said, “Other suspects that were arrested for armed robbery during the period were Oyebade Sola, 23; Emmanuel Richard aged, 25; Olamide Aluko, 20; Mathew Gbenga, 21; Adamu Umaru, 28; Mohammed Sanni, 21; Ahunmere Ayodele, 26; Ropo Timothy, 48; Samuel Adeniyi, 36, and Adeyemi Abiodun, 27.”
Richard and Oyebade were said to be members of a suspected six-man robber-gang terrorising residents of NTA area, Ado Ekiti.
In their possession at the time of their arrest were 56 blouses, 40 trousers, pairs of ladies shoes, handsets and one locally made double barrel pistol.
Valentine and other members of his gang were said to have fled from a red Toyota Carina car along Oke-Oriomi area of Ado Ekiti on siting the police. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
