Ogun traffic agency returns N13m to accident victim

The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) has handed over cash and cheques worth N13,905,805 and other items recovered from an accident scene to the victim, Alhaji Samisideen Shittu, in Abeokuta, the state capital.

The lone-accident, which involved a Toyota 4 Runner Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV), occurred at Onipepeye on the Siun-Kobape road yesterday morning.

It was learnt that Shittu lost control of the wheels and the vehicle veered off the road.

Handing over the recovered items to Shittu, who came from the hospital to collect them, TRACE Corps Commander Ayo Sangofadeji spoke of the corps’ honesty and integrity, adding that it had returned similar items to accident victims in the past.

Sangofadeji urged drivers to always use their seat belts, noting that Shittu would have sustained severe injuries, if he had not used the belt when the accident occurred.

He said: “TRACE cherishes integrity and our officers and men have been trained in this light. I seize this opportunity to remind our drivers of the importance of using seat belt. Many use it only when they see law enforcement officers. It should not be so. Safety belt is for the driver/passenger’s good.”

Shittu said he could not explain how he lost control of the vehicle.
