The Nigerian defender, who starred in the Confederations Cup looks set to become Boro boss Aitor Karanka’s first signing.
Chelsea rookie Kenneth Omeruo is lined up for a loan move to Middlesbrough.
The Nigeria defender, 20, is likely to join on a six-month deal and become Aitor Karanka’s first transfer-window capture Metro UK reports.
Blues boss Jose Mourinho, who had Karanka as his assistant at Real Madrid, knows Omeruo needs first-team football in World Cup year.
The Standard Liege product was a member of his country’s Africa Cup of Nations-winning side last year.
Boro boss Karanka has been linked with a string of Chelsea youngsters, including Dutch Under-21 defender or midfielder Nathan Ake, 18, who signed a new five-year contract with the Blues in August.
