Mbu directs me to apply for security matters - Amaechi

The Rivers State Governor and Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, has said the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Joseph Mbu, always directs him to write applications to the police command on issues bordering on security.

Amaechi, who described the development as ridiculous, explained that high ranking police officers, who knew about the situation, had expressed anger.

The governor spoke on Tuesday when officers and students of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, Kaduna State, paid him a courtesy visit in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

Amaechi alleged that senior police officers, who visited the state and lamented the attitude of the state police commissioner, were ordered to return to Abuja.

The governor said, “It may interest you to also know that if I call the commissioner of police, Mbu Joseph Mbu, he will say, ‘Governor, apply’. It is ridiculous. When some high ranking police officers come here and they hear it, they get very angry. But before they get out of here, they will be ordered to come back to Abuja.”

Amaechi attributed the dwindling state’s internally generated revenue to rising insecurity in the state and observed that the recent influx of political thugs into Rivers had heightened the level of insecurity in the state.

He blamed the development on the attitude of desperate politicians ahead of the 2015 election and added that the Rivers IGR would have hit N10bn monthly if not for the security problems that had hindered the operations of companies in the state.

The governor, “If not for the insecurity in the state and if all companies that were here before had remained to operate their business, we would have been generating up to N10bn monthly. Like you know, most of the companies ran to Lagos and some of them came to Port Harcourt and later ran back.

“Things were improving before now with the Army, Police and the State Security Service, which enabled us to arrest the insecurity in the state. But recently, because of the power play at the national level ahead of the 2015 elections, the security of the state has degenerated badly.

“One is wondering whether we should not differentiate between politics of election and politics of leadership because it is also important for you to know the economic interest of the people, and our private interest.”

You embarked on an elephant project that you knew before you started that this is not feasible and you started it. You want us to fly on air by your mono rail and have wasted billions of naira om each of these pillars along Aba road. And you have succeeded in dis medium to stael our money in preparation of 2015 election to those northern who are trying to use you. Abeg have a re think. Infact there should be sanction in this country and strict pemalty for any political office holder enbarking on such projects. May God help Nigeria from these looters

  5. I'll refrain from personal attacks n face the core issues. A governor of a state is supposed to be the number one citizen of d state n thus shd nt b subjected to ridiculousness by police inspectors. Could this happen in Akwa Ibom n d police chief won't get redeployed?

Some ppl here claim Amaechi hs wasted resources. I beg to differ. I av bin in tis state since 2007- pre Amaechi n it's only d blind dat wud say he's not performing. It's common knowledge that recurrent expenditure in govt is too high even at FG level. D state could generate 100b bt still our cost of governance is too high. Until we stop employing hungry ppl into govt, we would not see the money. Fashola is building same mono rail and no one is complaining- very ironic. I'm neither from Rivers nor an Amaechi loyalist but the difference the guy has made in d state since he came to power cannot b hidden.

  6. God will forgive those of you castigating Amaechi. Meaning you guys do not see anything wrong with the way Mbu is trying to bully the Governor just because Patience Jonathan wants to be ruling the state. Come 2015 even GEJ will not win going by his ineptitude. I voted him in 2011 but that was a mistake that will not repeat itself in 2015 by God's grace. I know that there is no difference btw PDP and APC but anything in 2015 is better than having PDP rule this country. Change is what we seek

  7. The f o o l is using this so-called witch haunting to steal money. He's using this opportunity to divert attention while he loots rivers state. Imagine, a jobless governor flying all the way to abuja just for El Rufai's ish with SSS when he should be concerned with the affairs of his state. Useless man

  9. Some people talk stupidly. Amechi is one, if not the best Governor ever emerged in Rivers State. People should talk sensibly and be guided in order to appreciate the good works the God sent man is doing.

I live in PH therefore, no body should tell me about the city; Amechi spreads his tentacles to the rural areas but not in urban areas alone. Go to Abia, Anambra, Ondo or Delta state and make comparison with what Amechi's had done including the ongoing works.
