IN PICTURES: Rivers State Senator Attacked By Police Moved To London For Treatment

A Rivers State senator who was reportedly shot with a rubber bullet and teargas cannisters earlier today  by the Nigerian police in the state is on his way to London for further treatment according to sources in the state.

Senator Magnus Abe was hospitalized earlier today when policemen disrupting a peaceful rally organized by the opposition members in state shot at him with teargas and rubber bullets.

His doctor claimed that the senator’s chest was hit with an object that might have caused internal bleeding therefore necessitating his transfer to the UK for better medical care.

The police in the state however deny that its members hot the Senator, they instead that minimum force was applied in dispersing rally goers at the state’s College of Arts and Sciences because they did not obtain police permit before the gathering.

  1. Shame on the present government in rivers state, a govt that cant provide medical facility to accurately diagnose /treat internal bleeding have no business in governance, the more reason it should be voted out of power. All the noise is to score some political point but you have missed. How much of tax payers money will be spent on this trip? i weep for this country.

  2. There is nothing wrong with him. This is a makeup story. Since no injury was visible, they decided to call it internal bleeding. To make it look serious, he has flown abroad for holiday in the name of medical treatment. Stop fooling people.

  4. Dont mind them. They think they can deceive us any longer. We did not see anything wrong with Abbe. Just to score cheap political point which they have made. The Doctor is working for them. Who is the owner of the hospital?, who are those patronising the hospital? . Check your records and you wil know why he said what he said. He should be investigated!. Writing a letter a letter to the police is not the same as getting permit. Rivers state is not for Amaechi alone but for all of us. He is just occupying an office and would leave next year, so he should not destroy it for us. He does not love the state more than others, he he want to be a vice president by stabbing his brother, he should not do it at the expense of the masses.

  5. You all are missing the point. He decide to travel because of security and journalist. They will never allow him to have peace and considering the security situation in the state, from your point of view is it safe for him to remain in the state when militant and police have gang up against the state governor.

  7. Anonymous 7.47 am, nobody is missing any point here. Rather than wasting their resources on propaganda fighting the Federal Govt, Rivers State should provide medical facilities to treat "rubber bullet" wounds. If something as simple as that is taking Magnus Abe to London " at tax payers expense" he and his brother Amechi should hide their heads in shame. When I saw the headline, I thought he was hit by a real bullet and we would be seeing blood. I beg enough of this propaganda. These people should get back to doing the work the people voted them to do. What is Magnus Abe always doing in PortHarcourt?? How many bills has he proposed in the Senate

  10. Wia is the "MODERN HEALTH CARE" facility the microphone magician Governor Amaechi keeps talking about when ordinary rubber bullet wounds are still being treated abroad. Any pint of blood spilled in the course of this quagmire the K-legged flag bearer brings on anyone will be on his head. We are not fools. A whole LGA was ceded to Cameron and the government of the day did not take up arms. CRS lost almost all the oil well to Akwa Ibom State and up til date they are leaving in peace. Why should Amaechi bring down the roof in the guise of fighting for oil well sake. God will SURELY judge him.
