Fresh violence rocks Ogun APC

Another round of political violence was on Thursday recorded in Ogun State as suspected political thugs unleashed terror on the secretariat of a serving Senator, Akin Odunsin, at Ota, Ado/Odo-Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Mr. Odunsin is believed to be one of federal lawmakers loyal to former Ogun State Governor, Olusegun Osoba.

Mr. Osoba is currently having a running battle with the Ogun State governor, Ibikunle Amosun, over control of the All Progressives Congress, APC, structure in the state; with many politicians in the state taking sides.

A number of people at the secretariat were reportedly attacked with machetes and are now currently receiving treatment in the hospital.

The attackers were accused of working for Mr. Amosun, who is eyeing a second term in 2015 polls, but has warned his supporters and residents against violence.

Thursday’s violence will be the third major one that has hit the APC in Ogun within two months.

Last week, several people including police officers were injured as thugs, allegedly loyal to Mr. Amosun, attacked another senator, Gbenga Obadara’s program. Mr. Obadara, like Mr. Odunsin, is believed to be loyal to Mr. Osoba. Mr. Amosun was in Lagos when the incident happened; and condemned the violence.

It was gathered that the attackers, operating in an unmarked private car, stormed the senator’s office located opposite AUD High School, Iganmode road, Ota at about 9.15 a.m. and beat up all those found on ground.

The thugs, alleged to be armed with guns and other weaponry, reportedly attacked the occupants of the office with machetes, with the Senator’s secretary, identified as Kemi Afolabi, being the most hit. She was later rushed to hospital.

It was also gathered that the attackers vandalised a number of office equipment including computers, chairs, tables, television set and other valuables before escaping from the scene.

The attack was alleged to have been sponsored by a former local government caretaker committee chairman on behalf of Mr. Amosun

The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Ikemefuna Okoye, raced to the troubled spot along with other top police officers in the state.

When our source contacted the Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, he confirmed the incident and said the Commissioner had ordered a full scale investigation into the matter.

“On receipt of the report, the scene of the crime was visited by the police detectives led by the DPO, Gabriel Dibie”.

“Meanwhile, the CP Ogun State, Ikemefuna Okoye, has visited the scene in the company of the DCP operations, Mohammed Abdulkadri, Area Commander, Ota, Titi Kayode, and DPO Otta, Gabriel Idibie for on the spot assessment,” Mr. Adejobi said.

The police had also set up a committee to investigate last week’s violence and bring the culprits to book.

  3. Why are press silent about all the atrocities going on in Ogun. Several lives if not more than six have been lost yet our stupid and bias press are keeping mute and have not made it daily and national issue like they do in the case of Rivers state. Where is lie lie lai mohamed? Only two people have lost their lives in Rivers which I condemn killing of any sort. Note, these two were killed by same APC members. Where are we heading with this blood thirsty APC - Angry People Congress?
