The Army Special Operation Battalion in Mubi, Adamawa, on Tuesday handed over money, including foreign currencies recovered from insurgents that robbed the Mubi Bureau de Change, to the owners.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalled that on Dec. 18, about 20 insurgents attacked Mubi Central Market where they robbed the bureau de change shops.
Handing over the money to the Chairman of the operators, in Mubi, the Commanding Officer of the battalion, Lt.-Col. Beyidi Martins, said N3.5 million, 12.5 million Cameroon Francs and 50,000 Central African Republic Francs, among others, were recovered.
He said the recovery was made during a shoot out that led to the death of 13 insurgents and one soldier.
Martins said two wanted insurgents that had been leading attacks on Mubi were among those killed by the army during the shoot out.
“The killing has neutralised the most potent threat to Mubi,” Martins said.
He lauded the support and cooperation the army received from the public, saying it played vital role in containing the insurgents.
Responding on behalf of his members, the Chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Nuhu, expressed gratitude to God and the military for the situation.
“This is the second time the military would be recovering our money from the insurgents.
“We are very greatful to the army and pray for their continuous successes,” Nuhu said.
The Chairman of Mubi Chamber of Commerce, Mines and Agriculture, Alhaji Abdulkadir Musa, commended the military for protecting lives and property in Mubi.
Lt.-Col. Martins also showed newsmen some of the arms recovered from the insurgents, comprising rocket propelled grenade, AK47 guns and Improvised Explosive Devices. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
