The All Progressives Congress has given the Federal Government and the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, a seven-day ultimatum to redeploy the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Joseph Mbu.
The APC also threatened to drag the Federal Government before the United Nations over what it described as the continued human rights abuses committed by Mbu in the state.
The Senior Special Adviser on Media to the Rivers State APC Chairman, Chief Chukwuemeka Eze, told The PUNCH in an interview on Monday that Mbu’s mission in the state had come to a climax with the Sunday’s police attack on a serving senator and other innocent citizens.
Eze said, “We are compiling the sins of Mbu against Rivers people. We will also compile efforts made by the Rivers State Government in asking for Mbu’s redeployment.
“We are aware of the National Assembly’s resolution that Mbu should be redeployed and we are giving the Federal Government from now till Monday to redeploy the state police commissioner from Rivers.
“The Federal Government is trying to prove that we (Rivers people) are a conquered state. But by Monday, if nothing happens, we are going to write a petition to the United Nations on what Mbu’s mission is in the state.
“For the police to have shot a serving senator and fired teargas in a place where we had children and other innocent citizens shows that Mbu has done his worst and should be ready to leave.”
Also in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Monday, the APC said contrary to police claim, the party had never applied for police permit but for police protection.
The statement read, “We find it necessary to correct the wrong account of events given by CP Mbu, including his claim that we applied for police permit for most of our rallies but failed to do so for the Obio-Akpor rally.
“This is a blatant lie. We have never applied for police permit for any of our rallies, but for police protection.
“We applied for police protection for the Obio-Akpor rally but instead of granting our request, CP Mbu sent his men to disrupt the rally and kill our people, apparently on the orders of his sponsors in Abuja.”
Police spokesman for the Rivers command, Ahmad Mohammad, on Monday said the command would react when it sees the APC petition to the UN.

I WOULD HAVE LOVED THE HEADLINE TO READ: "APC GIVES JONATHAN SEVEN DAYS...". BUT LET'S BE SERIOUS FOR ONCE, IN THE SPIRIT OF 'ONE NIGERIA', & STATESMANSHIP, GEJ SHOULD AS A MATTER OF NATIONAL URGENT IMPORTANCE, REDEPLOY MBU FOR OBVIOUS REASONS.
ReplyDeleteFROM EVERY INDICATION, MBU IS A POLITICIAN AND SHOULD BE RELIEVED OF HIS CURRENT DUTY POST TO STAND ELECTION IN WHATEVER STATE OF HIS CHOICE, MAY BE WITH PRESIDENTIAL FIAT. MBU & GEJ SHOULD KNOW THAT PUBLIC OFFICE IS A TRUST & SHOULDN'T BE ABUSED AS IT'S BEING DONE IN THE COUNTRY TODAY.
IT'S NEITHER ABOUT APC NOR OPPOSITION; IT'S ALL ABOUT FUNDAMENTAL HUMAN RIGHTS OF THE INNOCENT NIGERIANS WHO ARE TEAR-GASSED AND EVEN KILLED ON DAILY BASIS WITH IMPUNITY. IT'S RIVERS STATE TODAY; IT COULD BE ANY STATE TOMORROW IF UNCHECKED. FG, STOP THIS BLOOD SHED USING THE POLICE OFFICER CALLED MBU, PLEASE!!!
REMEMBER BOKO HARAM!
GOD BLESS NIGERIA!
Glory be to God. I really appreciate the efforts of the defected members of the national assemble for taking such a decision to leave PDP with their callousness. let them know that God's time is the best, and what their are thinking of, that is, ruling the country for fifty years is not going to yield positive results. Elebe should remember that this country does not belong to his father or Bayelsans.
ReplyDeleteSome people still reason like animal,"Apc gives seven days" who is APC ?, God is watching all the frustrated politicians an Abokies disturbing de peace of this country..m
