Angry youths in Manchok area of Southern Kaduna, reacting to the killing of seven indigenes of the area earlier today by suspected Fulani gunmen, have burnt down a mosque and Fulani hamlets.
State governor Mukhtar Yero later arrived in the town in an effort to douse tension and avoid escalation of the attacks. His spokesman, Ahmed Maiyaki, issued a statement in which he described the killings as heinous and ungodly.
A security source who is part of the reinforcements deployed to the area observed that Fulani residents have also fled for fear of being attacked by the angry youths.
It was further gathered that some Fulani elders insist they know nothing about the attacks going on and that they are being unfairly targeted.
Governor Yero has ordered a full investigation of the killings and prays that God would expose the perpetrators, Maiyaki said.
“We pray that God should touch their hearts to stop such dastardly acts or destroy their evil machinations.”
He described Governor Yero as having been visibly shocked by the unfortunate incident, and to have called on people in the community to remain calm as the government scales up its security strategies, especially in border communities.
“We are going to look at ways of dealing with this situation, because this community is porous and we must find way to improve security,” the statement added.
Maiyaki said Governor Yero also promised to empower community surveillance by vigilante groups in areas that have become prone to attacks. They are expected to compliment formal security arrangements towards forestalling reoccurrence.
Pleading for calm, the governor said, “As a leader, I am not happy with such ugly situation and it is my responsibility to ensure security and peace for the entire people of the State." Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

ReplyDeleteIs ok with the reprisal. Wish more were burn. If they do again more will go down. Southern kaduna will be hard for a fulani man to pass.
ReplyDeleteIs your Mosque more significant than those innocent lives? What you have said if they have directed their revenge attack on the fulanis living there? Probably they value life more than you and did not start slaugthering the fulanis in the area. You probably maybe one of them. Why not the federal gvt but an embargo on cows, let people stop eating their cows. It may look like simple thing to say, but this will make them to migrate to another region in Africa as they don't have homes.
