Governor Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State in northwestern Nigeria, has called on political office holders to desist from the practice of amassing wealth for their children.
The governor made the call at the graduation of Islamic schools in Sokoto on Saturday.
Wamakko said it was necessary for wealthy individuals to imbibe the culture of assisting the less-privileged members of the society.
The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Abubakar Sa’ad, called on Islamic clerics to strive to establish more Islamic schools.
“God will never hesitate to bless anybody doing his work and we should not be left out in this direction. This is work for our religion and anybody that does it will be rewarded by Allah’’, Abubakar said.
Abubakar urged Nigerians to continue to advise and pray for leaders at all levels of government in the country.
The Sultan commended Wamakko for his commitment to the course of Islam.
The Vice Chancellor of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, Prof. Riskuwa Shehu, urged the graduates to work according to the teaching of the Holy Qur’an.
The graduates, who had memorised the Qur’an, received a vehicle, 39 motorcycles and one million naira.
The beneficiaries included the graduates of Ma’ahadut-Tafeez Wad-Dirasatil Qur’aniyyah, Hubbare-Sokoto.
