Nigeria’s controversial cleric and pastor of the Household of God Church, Reverend Chris Okotie, on Tuesday, said he stood by his sermon last Sunday that Catholics will go to hell because they worship Satan and are led by an anti-Christ Pope who is friend to the devil.
The story was reported by NigerianEYE on monday
Okotie had come under attacks by millions of Christians and Catholics who expressed outrage against the famous preacher for making the controversial statement.
But instead of apologising, Okotie replied critics on his Facebook page and twitter handle with one phrase: “Re- Catholicism: Truth is bitter. It lacks saccharine delights.”
Fifty-five year old Okotie, while preaching in his Household of God Church in Ikeja area of Lagos, western Nigeria, had said that the Catholic church is “a counterfeit church set up by Satan” and that Catholics “bow to idols and crucify Jesus every Sunday when they eat bread claiming they are eating Jesus’ body.”
“They are not Christians and have never been,” Okotie told a stunned congregation.
“They don’t know Jesus. They believe that when they eat bread on Sundays, they are eating the body of Jesus. It’s ritual,” Okotie said.
He said Pope Francis is an Anti-Christ who does the job of the devil and that time is fast approaching when the Catholic church will pledge allegiance to Satan.
“The pope is an Anti-Christ and the Catholic church will soon declare for Satan. This is the end of times,” Okotie erupted.
Since the comment was made, Okotie has received knocks from within and outside Nigeria.

I am beginning to see reasons why there may be need for scrutinizing religious sects in Nigeria. I think its high time a body is set up to screen and register Churches in Nigeria. If every Tom, Dick and Harry is allowed to establish Churches as it pleases them, the name of Christ will continue to be dragged in the mud. Whosoever wish to establish a Church forthwith should be probed for authenticity of intent as well as necessary qualification. Pst. Chris got fed up with wayward living and bcos every goes in Nigeria, he just scribble some scriptures into his skull and without rethink set up a "Church" for ppl of like minds were divorce and re-marrying which Christ hates so much is the order of the day. All they do in his Church is beauty pageant and worldly music and dance. This same person instead of seeking for God's mercy, has the audacity to condemn another sect instead of burying his head in shame. I wonder what his adherence hope to achieve from their so-called man of god. The man better resign and join nollywood. Thats where he belongs. As for the ppl of the Catholic Church, i urge you all to ignore the pastor and be focused. He is likely an agent of darkness and shouldnt be allowed to spoil ur day.

I have read a lot about that long before now. I was born a catholic and my father is a cathechist. I am not his member but I assure u that there is truth in that message.

ReplyDeleteYes, the truth is really bitter. I will suggest the Catholics really go through their dogmas and doctrines to see reason with Okotie. I was born 'Catholic' if there is anything like that, but even in infancy, I began questioning the rational behind drinking wine in the name of Christ's blood and eating some sort of cake as if Christ's body!! What a ritual. Catholics will worship Mary, calling her "Mother of God", these are all abominations and cannot be taken as Godly. There are so many such funny doctrines that make Catholicism a religion of dogmas, more than anything from God. The truth is always bitter.

DeleteI am a catholic and what the catholics do in d mass is what christ instructed the disciples to contInue. On the part of mary the catholics honor her and also pray her to pray 4 us to christ the reason being that we believe that her intercession does not fail when you are praying for a genuine request and you are pure in spirit. It is as simple as using ones friend or mother to seek for the friend/sons favour. On the part of statue it is just like photograph to further explain the pains that christ passed through to secure salvation for mankind no body worships statue in d catholic church.
Lastly as for Chris Okotie I can only ask all to pray for him cuz he knows not what his doing or saying.

ReplyDeleteI just smile. I have had similar careless talk from friends and I know it will still come. I have also said somethings about some pastors and churches in Nigeria but later prayed for forgiveness. Am a Catholic with strong belief in God and the Church. There is nothing Pastor Chris or anyone can do about this. A true church continues to thrive decade after decade. We pray to be alive and see the ugly head of rancour when some overseers/heads go. My questions go like this- How many of the pro Pastor Chris comments have been inside any Catholic church and see them worship images? We don't worship images. We honour Mary because of all women around then,she was chosen. Its not different from what we see in modern day, honour and award given to distinguished individuals. I can go on and on but I advise any contrary views to visit any Revr Fr. 4 explanation and when not convinced, should make wider consultation. ReplyDeletePLEASE LISTEN to the truth. It is time to say it. We are to pray IN JESUS NAME and not through Mary who is an ordinary being like you and I. She was only privileged to be chosen as a being through which Jesus would be born. She is not to be worshipped. As for the communion, this should be practiced by anyone baptized into the name of Jesus the moment you accept Jesus into your life and by undergoing water baptism by immerse in water. This was what the disciples did with Jesus and they were to continue after he left as a remembrance of him. I don't buy the idea why your priests have to do that on your behalf. The issue here is you should not worship any other image except the ONLY TRUE GOD. So, why all these images all over the place. Pls read your bible with understanding. ReplyDeleteWe have a lot of blind people who say they go to church. Much as not all Catholics will go to hell, but teaching that Mary is the mother of God is heresy. Where is Mary now? Mary is in the grave. That God used her to give birth to Jesus does not give her authority to become the mother of God and to pray to Jesus to forgive your sins. That is a very wrong teaching. You mean that Jesus Himself cannot hear your prayers? Do you need any image to represent God in your sight? What does the Bible say about God. That God is everywhere. That God is omnipotent and Omnipresent. If God is Omnipresent do you need any image again? The problem with Catholic faithfuls is that they don't read the Bible to know the truth.

In the journey of the Israelites to the promised land, they offended God and God ask Moses to make a statue of serpent. Whoever looked on the status was healed of the plague! Till today, that statue is found in all medical hospitals and the symbol of healing (two snakes twisted around a stick)....
From the Bible, they looked upon statue, instructed by God to be made, for healing!
The making of the old Ark of the Covenant was very detailed. God instructed them to construct the box with images of Angels at specific angles facing each other. The Ark of the Covenant was God's physical presence on earth before it disappeared near a mountain. Around thesame mountain, Mary was discovered and was chosen to bear the new Ark of the Covenant- Jesus Christ!
If a box was so powerful and honored by men of old, why not a person (Mary) who bore a fleshy Covenant delivered directly from heaven?
ALL THESE FACTS ARE FOUND IN THE BIBLE, the old Testaments, for those who still have reverence for ALL pages of the Scripture!
The Knights were/are God's physical soldiers to defend the Church of God. Christianity would have been ran over and defeated, in the time of old, if not for the physical war waged by men who fought and gave their life for the Church to grow, obviously the only true and first church of God- the Catholic Church. Read history, how these other Churches started, who started them and why! Especially the first church to brake away!
At the institution of the Knighthood, rules were made and code of conduct established. Though the physical war has been reduced, do you think the rules and entrance processes should be thrown away for ungodly civilisation!?

Jesus instituted the breaking of bread and drinking of wine to represent His Body and Blood! Is Christ a ritualist too!? And Catholics don't just take communion on sundays! We obey Christ everyday, we take communion everyday! For the content of the wine and bread, the Catholic Church authority across the world DOES NOT produce the bread and wine. They only prescribe standards for any one who wants to produce them. Anyone goes to buy them from the market and bring them to the church as gift items were they are blessed and consecrated! And the wine is not meant for the priest only! Everyone partakes when it is surplus to avoid serving few leaving out others!
Christ left only one Rule: love your neighbour as your self and as Christ loves you!
If you love someone so much, you keep their picture close and even make an image of them. I have seen cases where children make mouldings of parents in their compound at their demise. Looking at the images reminds them of there parents and brings back memories!
For God sake! ”Hail Mary full of grace, blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus!” Is a prayer in the Bible, of course the new Testament!

Christopher Okotie or whatever his name is a confused person looking for attention. The musician, politician and self acclaimed man of God who doesn't see anything wrong in eyeing married women or worse still going out with them. We can however glean some truths in his statement. The craze about Mary and her well deserved honour, the rosary started in 1917 when a demon goddess of baal named semiramis visited 3 devoted catholics in the city of Fatima in France and handed them the rosary. It is unchristian and has nothing to do with Christ. On the images exodus 20 was explicit. "Do not make for yourself a graven image or the likeness of anything in heaven, on earth or under the earth. Do not bow to them do not worship the for I Jehova you God; I am a jealous God." This statement bring to bare the fact that the catholic doctrines runs foul of the 10 commandments. Since Catholics worship Satan and are hell bound what about other Christian denominations: what are they doing to remedy the chaotic and anarchic situation of our dear country. People say it is not in the Bible: let me ask where is it that it must be in the Bible? The Bible came to be from the rich Tradition of the Catholic Church and remains a veritable tool of the Catholic Church; thus only the Catholic Church can give proper and correct interpretation of the words of the Sacred Scripture. Learn to live by the injunctions of the Lord. The apostles gathered every first day of the week to break bread. Go back to First Corinthians Chapter Eleven (1 Cor 11:23ff). Be informed that the Catholic Church has existed many decades before the Bible came to be. Seek for clarifications and be informed. Why are there many sects popping up in the name of Christianity. Are they seeking Christ or wealth?
