Missing $49.8b oil money: Falana calls for audit of federation account

Missing $49.8b oil money: Falana calls for audit of federation account

Lagos lawyer Mr. Femi Falana has urged the National Assembly to direct the Auditor-General of the Federation to audit the Federation Account and submit his report within one month.

He said, both the Senate and the Petroleum Minister should stop the investigation ordered into the missing $49.8 Billion oil money and the audit of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

He said, his demand was in consonance with Section 85(4) of the Constitution, which states that “The Auditor-General shall have power to conduct periodic checks of all government statutory corporations, commissions, authorities, agencies, including all persons and bodies established by an Act of the National Assembly”.

He explained that he made the demand because all the probes carried out by the National Assembly since 1999 have failed to check the impunity of the NNPC.

The activist noted the report made to President Goodluck Jonathan by the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr Sanusi Lamido Sanusi that the Management of the NNPC was withholding the sum of $49.8 billion from the Federation Account being the revenue realised from the sale of 594.024 million barrels of crude oil lifted between January 2012 and July 2013.

He also observed that the management of the NNPC stated that “ the figure of 594.024 million barrels of crude oil given by the CBN as the total crude oil lifting for the period of January 2012 to July 2013 does not represent the correct picture of crude oil lifting for the period. From our records, the correct figure is 618.55m barrels.

This shows that the CBN understated the actual crude lifting by 4.13 per cent,”

“Apart from indicting the CBN for giving incorrect figures the NNPC claimed that “The 24 per cent of total crude oil revenue receipts which the CBN governor is reported to have acknowledged that NNPC remitted represents the proceeds from the equity lifting which NNPC is directly responsible for. The alleged unremitted 76 per cent was paid to the agencies that are statutorily empowered to receive them for onward remittance into the Federation Account”.

  1. I pray these looters that are stealing the nation money are considered more dangerous than Armed Robbers.
Unless serious punishment is applicable, they will ran the nation into bankruptcy.
Where are the so called Human Right Societies that are agitating for cancelation of capital punishment for those destroying their countries?

  2. My brother they are far more dangerous. If they steal a little as advice by the Niger state governor there will be enough to sort a lot of problems and the crime rate will be next to nothing.

  3. Kubi Ben:Ecclesiastes 4:1 NKJV

Then I returned and considered all the oppression that is done under the sun: And look! The tears of the oppressed, But they have no comforter— On the side of their oppressors there is power, But they have no comforter.
It is an abomination for kings to do evil, for the throne is established by righteousness.
I have not come to preach to anyone because am not a preacher and am not even aspiring to become one.
Despite all the prayers and the preachings that is going on at our churches every Sundays and weekly days, atrocities have become our Bishops, General overseas and imam's at our worship centers and that brought me to ask the same question as did by Sunny Okosie in 1986 when he released his hit Album (Which way Nigeria? ) when one speak about the evil that our leaders are commuting on daily basis if the ethnic fools did not counter ur critics the church people who are cowards and blind will tell you to go and pray for our leaders and I ask again, how can we be praying for our wicked leaders with an empty stomach when they are exercising their wickedness in abundance? if u are in their shoes will ever think of change knowing that that will bring an end to the opportunities that u have? .
Insanity they say, is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results, how can we continue to pray for these guys haven seen what they are doing which is wasting our resources, no accountability and when they come out at network news they acknowledge that their is corruption in the system with so many corrupt officials, ask them Who are those corrupt people? they don't know, maybe because i dont have any of my family members in government or politics that's why am saying all this as some people may view it but the if I be a child of God, I should be able to stand for what is right irrespective of the one who is commuting the crime.
Its time and we have grown wiser and we have found out that it is the same people who are helping us to track down the corrupt people are corruption themselves and we can't hide our shame and be praying for God to help us, its just a waste of time and energy, we need to forget who we are and what we are doing and match out for a revolution now its the time enough is enough.
