A last ditch effort by President Goodluck Jonathan to bring back the five governors who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressive Congress faltered again as a meeting convened on sunday ended in a stalemate.
The meeting which was presided over by president Goodluck Jonathan and had in attendance the Vice President, Namadi Sambo; seventeen governors including three of the seven G7 governors, chairman of the board of Trustees of the PDP, Tony Anenih lasted till 3:30 on monday morning.
While the governor of Sokoto state, Magatakarda said they were in the Villa to formally inform president Jonathan that they had left the PDP for APC, the Akwa Ibom Godswill Akpabio said the meeting was at the instance of the president to find lasting solution to the lingering crisis in the PDP. Mr. Jonathan, it looks to me that you are losing your party base faster than normal, even by Nigerian standard. It is a cause for worry that before your very eyes, and in the presence of the most powerful members of your party, your governors talk down on you and dare you.

ReplyDeleteThe governors have left for good. They didn't just wake up to take the decision to leave. They planned and took the decision long ago. They may not find solace in their new political home for it is a house that was hurriedly built and peopled by men of opposing characters.
