Jonathan to Obasanjo - Your letter is provocative, unpatriotic, self-serving and malicious

The Presidency has reacted to the letter written by ex President Olusegun Obasango accusing Jonathan of betraying  the mandate of Nigerians who voted him to power, and had, instead, been pursuing selfish, personal and political interests based on the advice he received from unpatriotic aides.

The Presidency through  Reuben Abati, Special Adviser to the President, said that the letter is unbecoming, mischievous and provocative.

Obasanjo in his letter accused Jonathan of destroying Nigeria

The Presidency’s Statement read thus:

“We have noted the publication on several websites today of a letter recently written by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo to President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

“We however find it highly unbecoming, mischievous and provocative that a letter written by a former Head of State and respected elder statesman to President Jonathan has been deliberately leaked to the mass media in a deplorable effort to impugn the integrity of the President and denigrate his commitment to giving Nigeria the best possible leadership.

” While many patriotic, objective and well-meaning Nigerians have already condemned the leaked letter as self-serving, hypocritical, malicious, indecent, and very disrespectful of the highest office in the land, President Jonathan has directed that none of his aides or any government official should join issues with Chief Obasanjo over it.”

“The President himself will, at the appropriate time, offer a full personal response to the most reckless, baseless, unjustifiable and indecorous charges levied against him and his administration by the former Head of State.”

The Presidency also acknowledged it had received the said letter.

  8. GEJ's crew offered a very swift response to OBJ but has remained silent on the Oduah and $50bn cases.

GEJ we have eyes we have ears we have feelings such as hunger pangs and aching bodies. Do you see what's happening in Ukraine?

    Your time is nigh.

  10. I really pity Reuben Abati, he must be going through hell. The same thing Segun Adeniyi and Duro Onabule went through.
You go into a job feeling you can make a change, then you find out things are far worse than you thought and the worst part is you can't resign from the job, else they will hunt you down wherever you go, you and your family. You have to keep lying for the Oga at the top till the very end.
Maybe you will reconcile with Sahara reporters and write a book on this your sojourn at Aso rock in 2016...we should know the truth by then. Ooops you guys have sworn an oath to secrecy I forgot, so we will never know. Anyway sha God will help ya ministry o.
This is a cycle my people, the goverment at the centre employs our best journalists as media people and destroy them, scare them for life. How do we stop this?

  14. We all can now see why it is difficult for Nigeria to move forward. The Ex President just accused president GEJ of failing the Nigerian People and also the aides of not advising him rightly. Just immidiately Mr Abati one of his aides responded harshly by saying, and I quote "most reckless, baseless, unjustifiable and indecorous charges levied against him". Is this how an adviser who knows what he is doing should respond to critic, especially one coming from former head of state. Some how they think Nigerians are fools, who are always being setimentally carried away. Yes I know we can be fools sometimes, but not all the time. I expect any adviser who has the interest of his boss at heart, should be cautious in his response especially on senseitive issues that affect all the Nigerian people. Anyway the TRUTH they say is better.

  16. My advise for GEJ is to keep mute over such glaring facts accusations from his political mentor as he will only compound the problem, because they are not accusations he can defend himself considering his gross incompetence and lack of direction when it comes to national issues. He will only disgrace himself the more.

  17. ELDER OBJ is already frustrated, you dont expect the President to honour all your request, there are other nja dat need help or assistance as well. anytime the president fails to grant your request then you go and publish nonsense,go ahead oooooo.
Bro JONA dont listen to them yaa, i am sure good nja people kwn you are trying to clean up their mes -obj, atiku, buhari......., kupapa

  18. You just write before thinking! Are you really a Nigerian? Or are you blind to see the obvious corruption around the place? I pity you

  19. Sometimes i wonder if these south south people are too blind to see that GEJ is completely incompetent to lead this country or they have refused to see the glaring simple problems he has been unable to give directives for resolution. If you insist that a south south person has to lead come 2015 then pls bring out a more competent person not this incompetent man.
And all this noise about insulting the office of the president should stop jarey. It was okay to insult that office when OBJ was there so much so the comedians (mostly south south) made it a habit to include calling him a monkey in all the performances. Now becos he is south south that office is now suddenly sacred.
See if the south south continue like this our case will just be like that of oyo state in 1983 when the ibadan people insisted on electing their own son, a drunkard at that time, olunloyo. He won the election, even if it was rigged. But i am sure the people of ibadan are still regretting that decision till today.

  20. OBJ ,give a bit breathing space to the younger generation . We want to know at what age you will stop talking about political party .You had wanted the President to use his office to rig elections in Anambra and Edo states respectively then you would have said he was protecting PDP. OBJ , Nigerians will like to hear the actions you took against your then minister of Aviation Chief Fani-Kayode when siphoned over 22bn aviation fund. Out of office and old age can never make you a saint as far as this country is concerned e.g. the way you raised billions for your library where top government functionaries were donating money for you . What about the mass killing you did at Odi?

  22. It's quite unfortunate that Ruben Abati a Yoruba man from Abeokuta can respond to a well thought out letter from former president Obasanjo in an abusive manner. The real problem with this country is the quality of people around our leaders. The best way to test the character of a real man is to give him power. We use to see Ruben as one of those that will help in getting this nation out of darkness alas with little power he lost his head. My dear president, we struggled so much to see you through the last election but the reward is lack of stable power supply, high level of incompetence in every area of governance and you still have the courage to pursue another term in office. We are no fools and ready to proof that come 2015.

  23. @ emex I have never been for obasanjo all my life because he is the cause of our problems today if he had allowed us to start on a fresh note in 1999 and build strong institutions rather than strong people we wouldn't have been where we are today cause the system will run itself no matter who is the president,it takes just 1person to liberate it's people just like madiba, having said that the allegations raised against GEJ by OBJ shouldn't be ignored because I don't think OBJ can be saying such huge security issues without getting his facts,GEJ has no clue on how to run the country he should just go abeg.

  24. Reuben Abati, if you have forgotten your previous show in "Pattitos Gang' then as regards Nigerian Leadership and most especially OBJ was in power where you always criticise his government, and now it's your turn with GEJ that you have gutt to reply OBJ because of your stupid job GEJ gave you, I AM SORRY FOR YOU. Instead of you to stylishly put off yourself on this matter, infact You are a SHAME to the entire JOURNALIST in Nigeria, people that have being in that sit where you occupied, where are they today! such as Segun A..., Onibule. You are doing your job abi; continue until they smash coconut on your head of which GEJ will go back and prostrate to Baba OBJ and you go com be munmun' Ko ra e lo, Oniro ayeee...Abati
Nigerians keep watching; It is a Movie! OBJ-GEJ Part 1, "it has entered Nollywood, part 2 is coming out soon

  25. The best answer to a fool is to remain silent afterall no body as Head of states or past President ever performed better that GEJ. All of u making noise and insulting the President should shut up ur dirty pots and let see what Nigeria will deliver by 2015-Laugh........
