I will not react to Jonathan’s reply – Obasanjo
Nigeria’s former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo today declined to make fresh reaction to the open letter sent to him by President Goodluck Jonathan, which was a response to Obasanjo’s earlier letter.
Obasanjo’s spokesman, Tunde Oladunjoye, told newsmen today at the hilltop residence of the former President in Abeokuta, capital of the western Nigerian state of Ogun that Obasanjo will not further trade words with Jonathan, nor dignify his letter with a fresh response. Chief Obasanjo in envisaging Jonathan’s response had clearly stated what his position will be: he will play mute.
Oladunjoye, the former PDP deputy governorship candidate during the 2011 governorship in the State, quoted Obasanjo’s position from his 2 December letter, titled, Before It is Too Late: where Obasanjo stated: “I will maintain my serenity, because by this letter I have done my duty to you as I have always done, to your government, to the party, PDP, and to our country, Nigeria”.
“Since the publication of the letter written by the President, Commander in chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR, which was in response to the letter earlier written by the revered former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, we have received several requests from local and international media, asking to know Chief Obasanjo’s reaction to Mr President’s response.
“Chief Obasanjo, GCFR, acknowledges Mr President’s letter/ response, however, Baba as he already indicated in his December, 2, 2013, does not wish to make further comments beyond the contents of his last letter to Mr President or react to the said letter/ response from Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. Let me reiterate here, that Chief Olusegun Obasanko GCFR, has tremendous respect for the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”, the statement read.
President Goodluck Jonathan in a letter dated 20 December, 2013 responded to the letter written to him by the former President, Olusegun Obasanjo accusing his government of ineptitude in addressing the state of the nation. DeleteI hv always loved Obj. His open letter to Jona is a childish disrespect to himself.
ReplyDeletePeople of biased mind will never reason with what is really going in this nation but Im very well sure OBJ can not just talk for talking sake, He was and still a security man. Jonathan needs to be investigated.
ReplyDeleteWhat else is there for OBJ to say. the president as far as i am concerned came out of this matter a hero. oh he showed class. He showed the difference between an educated person and a not so educated one. The difference between a cut and nail carpenter and a trained furniture maker
ReplyDeleteObasanjo has said his own. Jonathan did not really give correct answers to the allegation, which by the way are not meant to be answered but worked on, all he did was to cunningly remind us of the atrocities that Obasanjo committed during his tenure as head of state and president and to also gave statistics which has no impact on the average Nigerian. He chose to ignore Oduah's and farouk lawan's corruption allegation which which need no court injunction for their removal, but only for prosecution, neither of which we have seen. Yet you gave a reply which was only meant to rubbish the image of obasanjo (which in any case is as bad as yours if not worse) and trying paint yourself as innocent, but we know you are not. Trying to use the media to play a mind game on Nigerians to gather public sympathy. We have not forgotten that u, in conjunction with Okonjo Iweala, shoved the fuel subsidy removal down our throat not minding public opinion and tried to paint ASUU black when we know that what they are fighting for is the future of our children's education. You were the first to call our graduates "half baked" (which most of them are) and yet unwilling to do something about it because it involves money which you are hoarding for your 2015 election campaign. I am not here to debate who is worse between you and Obasanjo, I'm only here to tell you to do what is right and redeem yourself. You are headed for the same pit Obasanjo is right now and you need to take a uturn be before it is too late for you. God has not created the man he cannot punish. A word is enough for the wise.
ReplyDelete@ anonymous 9.45a.m it seems youre a very one sided analyst. Nobody has said the president has got it all right. what we are saying is that instead of the shouting and bickering by all these old good for nothing politicians they should rather be helping the guy to make Nigeria better. instead of them sponsoring boko haram and creating unnecessary tension they should be finding ways to make Nigeria better. They have all at one time or the other been in positions of power or are still in positions of power but have either not done better or are not doing better and yet none of them has faced the obstacles this guy has faced since day one of his presidency. As to the issue of oduah and farouk, i beg to correct you that yes he can remove Oduah and for that i do castigate him too but he is not the one shielding farouk (rather it is the Tambuwal led assembly that is shielding him) Most of you do not know the politics behind this subsidy thing and that why you will never realise that it is better to remove the subsidy than to keep it in place because all we will keep doing is making a very minute set of people forever rich and leaving the rest of us in perpetual poverty. As for asuu they have gotten their money now lets see what they will do with it at the end of the day. If you have ever been a student of any of our universities then you will agree with me that most of our lecturers are worse than infidels. Obj has access to mr president and could have made his views known to him without all the drama but was rather bent on causing mischief only because he is now a spent force and no longer has GEJ in his pocket. Remember when he first came in and everyone was on his neck that he was simply an OBJ stooge??? Guess what he is no longer one and thats the crux of the matter.
