It was gathered their arrest followed a petition over the N25bn supplementary budget presented by the governor, Rabiu Kwakwanso to the lawmakers on December 5.
There are suspicions that the supplementary budget is a cover up to financial misappropriation.
Kwakwanso recently left the ruling Peoples Democratic Party with four other governors to join the opposition party-All Progressives Congress.
The EFCC’s spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed the arrest to our correspondent in Abuja.
He said, “It is true they were invited. They are still with us. They were brought in from Kano today (Monday).”
He, however, refused to give details of the arrests and the allegations.
Uwujaren, however, debunked insinuations that the arrest had political undertone.
He said, “It has nothing to do with politics. The insinuation is unfounded. The EFCC is only performing its statutory responsibility.”
However, Kwakwanso, has expressed dismay and shock, over the arrest of the state lawmakers.
He alleged that the public officials were arrested in connection with the budget amendment of 2013 of the state government, which had already been signed into law by the state governor.
He said, “It is crystal clear that the above mentioned public officials were arrested by the EFCC on the orders from the above, because of the legislators’ defection to APC, in support of Kwakwanso.
“This action is obviously to intimidate and cow them into submission for choosing to move to the progressives’ fold. This action is not only despicable and absurd but also capable of igniting crisis in the polity, thereby breaching the relative peace that is being enjoyed in Kano State.” Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

Hmmm! EFCC! Why Kano now? This is purely political! Why not PDP controled states like Benue,Bayelsa,AKWA-Ibom etc?!
ReplyDeleteAllow EFCCto do her job. We recently accused the president of encouraging corruption. The fight against corruption has started. EFCC wont go after those with clean hands. Or did we accuse the president just to score cheap point?. What would cause crisis in the state?. We did not vote you to enrich yourself through corruption. Those who go for equity must come with clean hands. The corruption war has started and it can start anywhere there is smell of it. This is good for the polity!
ReplyDeleteDo you really mean the corruption war has started? Then I'll say charity begins at home. Even the blindest of the blinds knows that Jonathan is encircled in the ocean of corruption. These are crystal clear cases that demand urgent actions but here he is having no clue on what to do. I can't imagine Oduah still enjoying from tax payers money.... Smh.
DeleteGood talk @ anonymous 7.45a.m. It doesnt matter where the search starts from. Those who live in glass houses do not throw stones. If i was Mr president i will start with lagos state, rivers state and then by the time a full can of worms has been opened we will all know the corrupt ones and those who are not. The opposition is equally as corrupt if not more corrupt. If not how can a house of assembly pass a supplementary budget for a year that has already come to an end in the month of December? i smell a big rat....
ReplyDeleteLet Jonathan expose all of them. The war against corruption have just started in earnest. Since they have made the country un governable for Jonathan he should also make it impossible for them to steal money.
