Dr. Clement Chup, the ASUU chairman, UniAbuja Chapter, said the union dared the Federal Government to sack its members over the prolonged universities' strike.
He said this during a telephone interview with Daily Trust in the afternoon of November 28, 2013, Thursday.
“The school can go ahead and ask students to resume but we won’t do any work; we won’t teach them. It is not our responsibility to resume until ASUU decides.
“We’re not afraid of that (sack). He (Education Minister) can go to the motor park to recruit lecturers that will lecture the students. You can now see the insincerity of some people in government.
We told the government when we met that we’re ready to suspend the strike once we’re able to clarify some issues in our agreements with them. But they went ahead without clarifying those issues at stake. We dare them to sack us,” Dr. Clement Chup said.
In would be recalled that the statement signed by the University registrar in the morning of November 28, 2013, Thursday, directed UniAbuja students to resume academic activities from December 1, 2013, Sunday.

Chup or what ever you call yourself, i want to quickly remind you that there are good number of competent lecturers out there unemployed, so let it stick into that your dull brain please. You better go back to class before it too late for you, or are you among the ASUU leader that share APC money to destroy our education?
ReplyDeleteUr contribution is pointless.
DeletePDP is destroying our education. They send their wards abroad to study and mess up our system. O.J
ReplyDeleteGovernment will not go to motor parks. Have you heard of TAC? Technical Aids Corp? Yeah! Nigeria is a signatory, & for more than 10 years, Nigeria has been contributing to that programme without receiving. I think this will be Nigeria's time to receive a pay back. In this programme, Nigeria contributes technical aids in the form of manpower, to countries that don't have. More than 20% of Nigerians who participate in this programme go out to teach. Now, Nigeria will need the other contributor to contribute to her. And guess what we'll ask for...Dedicated University Lecturers.
ReplyDeleteFG's threat is primitive. It is nothing but an effort to dangerously worsen an already bad situation. I don't know those who have advised Mr President to take this perilous decision.I am sure these advisers do not understand the full context of the situation which necessitated the strike action. Wrong advice like this is capable of precipitating a disaster of monumental proportion with terrible ripple effects.Mr President needs to urgently replace these wrong advisers with men of wisdom who sincerely love him and Nigeria.Use of threat to bring back the striking lecturers to class is not a good method and can never solve a problem which has assumed this dimension. After the death of Solomon, his son Rehoboam was asked by his subjects to ease the unbearable burden of servitude imposed on them by his late father. Rehoboam demonstrated folly by taking the counsel of the young, inexperienced, unreasonable, perversed men who advised him to chastise his subjects with scorpion, meaning the use of a more severe and deadly approach than the use of whip applied by Solomon, his late father. The end result was that about 90% of his father's kingdom was lost to his father's servant who had no direct or indirect relationship with the royal lineage. A word is enough for the wise.
