Six injured in deputy governor’s convoy crash

There was disquiet among the drivers attached to the convoy of the Delta State Deputy Governor, Prof. Amos Utuama (SAN), yesterday, following the convoy’s involvement in an accident at the weekend.

The convoy, which was returning from a thanksgiving service at Mosogar, Ethiope West, in honour of the mother of the Political Adviser to the Governor, Chief Ighoyota Amori, was involved in a crash at Agbor, Ika South Local Government.

It was learnt that six persons were injured and are on admission in a private hospital in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

A driver, simply identified as Paulinus, sustained a head injury and is in a coma.

It was learnt that a surgery would be carried out on him.

Some of the drivers, who spoke to newsmen on condition of anonymity, expressed outrage, adding that besides the poorly- maintained vehicles in the fleet of the deputy governor, they (the drivers) are compelled to drive at a high speed.

  1. It was Kogi Gov.'s convoy that broke the leg of their Gov, it was Kogi convoy that killed Prof Iyayi, it was Kwara Gov.'s wife convoy that killed 2 people in Lagos. Now it is the deputy Gov of Delta State. What is really happening? If the cars of a deputy Governor are poorly maintained, then what are we talking about in the state. If Delta state does not have enough money to maintain cars for the officials to be safe on the road, other states should be using bicycle as suggested last week. Secondly a driver said they are compelled to drive at high speed whereas somebody will soon dispute the claim as untrue. Recklessness in the high places need to be checked immediately. If this one involve the the Deputy Gov himself, ie if the deputy Gov. was injured and hospitalized, maybe the story will be different. Those in power should ACT NOW. Toks

  3. A driver who says he was compelled to speed excessively in a poorly maintained car is talking thrash
I think Road Safety should post Senior Officers to lead the convoys of all these over hasty Nigerians
What comes round goes round so the convoy should also suffer what innocent Nigerians see in bad roads
