Members of the House of Representatives Tuesday mandated the House Committee on Police Affairs to summon the Inspector General of Police, Mr Mohammed Abubakar to explain the role of the police in the alleged harassment of G-7 Governors at the Kano state Government House on Sunday.
The committee is also expected to ascertain the circumstances leading to the invasion of the Kano’s Governor’s lodge by the men and officers of the Nigeria Police Force under the command of a divisional Police Officer, DPO and report back to the House within two weeks.
This development was sequel to a motion brought to the floor of the House under matters of National Importance by Rep Idris Kutigi, PDP, Niger state.
The motion which was signed by other 60 members and titled: ‘IMPUNITY AND DISREGARD TO THE CONSTITUTION OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA,1999 (AS AMENDED) BY THE NIGERIAN POLICE FORCE’.
Drama however started immediately the motion was announced on the floor of the House as the sharp division between the old bloc and new bloc PDP reared its ugly face again.
The old bloc tried to kill the motion but with the heavy support of the opposition the splinter PDP carried the day.

Wonders shall never end. I do not know when Nigerians especially the House of Reps members will refrain from rebellious attitude. Why summoning the IGP to appear before the Committee on Police Affairs. They are encouraging illegality in our society.

ReplyDeleteWhat do you know about illegality and what do you term rebellious attitude by the Members of Reps? That the break away/factional/''new PDP was not recognized by INEC and the court does not take away their right of peaceful association as entrenched in the 1999 Constitution as amended. For crying out loud, these gentlemen gathered to discuss what best suited their interest and were not having any political rally and should not have been treated as common criminals. These are executive governors of their respective states not touts or Area-boys. If the police could treat them this way then sorry for the masses considered as lesser mortals. Let the House question the IGP very well on who issued such undemocratic instruction if at all they want to preserve the beauty of DEMOCRACY in Nigeria.
@anonymous 8:22:...its so shameful u can descend so low in terms of your reasoning capacity???....
ReplyDeleteWhere is the rebellion herein???
Is it wrong to determine wнατ̲̅ seems or appears best for my people(myself inclusive)???
Your statement is devoid of intellectual reasoning....'M very sure u need extramoral "evening" adult classes...
*what a shame*!!!!!
GEJ is raping democracy in broad daylight. Nigerians must not only frown at this impunity and clamour for the dismissal of the IGP and the DPO but must also call the president to order for this impeachable offence. Otherwise our democracy is on the brink of collapse. The IGP and the DPO carried out an unlawful order which can only come from the president who, in turn, is fully aware that its an affront on the constitution that he swore to obey and uphold. Its an impeachable offence.
