A former Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has said the crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party may signal its end as a ruling party in the country.
Oyinlola said this against the background of the refusal of the leadership of the party to obey the Court of Appeal judgment that reinstated him as the national secretary of the party.
The former governor spoke with journalists at his residence in Abuja on Wednesday.
He said it was appalling that some people could also ask those aggrieved in the party, including seven governors to leave the party.
He said, “You have seven governors threatening to leave the PDP and you said it is meaningless if they go. I want to pray and believe that reason will prevail and will bring the crisis to an end. If it is not done, that may mean the end of the PDP as a ruling party.
According to him, with the pronouncement of the Court of Appeal, he remains the bonafide national secretary of the party and that he must be allowed to perform his duties.
He said the National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur ought to have prevailed on the plaintiffs to appeal the ruling instead of disobeying it.
Oyinlola, who is also a lawyer, said that anything done by the party without his signature would remain illegal from the date the Court of Appeal reinstated him.
He said, “I remain the national secretary and I must be allowed to perform my duty because any thing done in the name of secretary without my signature is absolutely illegal and will face the legal test at the court and we don’t need to put our party into such ridicule and problems.”
In his reaction, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Olisa Metuh said the party would not reply Oyinlola, who he insists remains suspended.
Metuh, who spoke with our correspondent on the telephone, said “we won’t waste our energies on a suspended member of the party.
“He should prepare to face the disciplinary committee after that we can beging to discuss.” Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
