“At about 2 a.m. (0100 GMT) unknown gunmen carried out an attack” in four villages, said area military spokesman Salisu Mustapha.
Our correspondent gathered that the marauders overran Gura Bwok, Fan, Heipang and Foron districts of the local government, killing villagers and burning some houses.
It was further gathered that nine people were killed in Gura Bwok; seven in Fan; 11 people in Heipang and five people in Foron.
Several houses were also said to have been razed in the attacks, which were said to be reprisals for last week’s theft of more than 200 heads of cattle by some yet-to-be-indentified hoodlums.
It was also gathered that two Fulani herdsmen were killed by the cattle thieves as men of the Special Task Force tried to intervene.
Police Public Relations Officers, DSP Felicia Anselm, said the killings were in response to the theft of cows and the alleged killing of two of the herdsmen, said to be Fulani, by the cattle thieves.
“The attackers killed 13 persons in Katu Kapang, eight in Daron, nine in Tul and seven others in Rawuru.”
Two days ago, about 300 gunmen also invaded Kukah village and killed five persons. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
