The Manu-Garba tutored youngsters defeated their Swedish counterparts 3-0 in the second semi final played at Rashid Stadium in Dubai.
Idowu Awoniyi was the hero once again, scoring in the 21st minute to shot the three-time world champions ahead.
The Nigerians dominated possession as usual, but could not translate their superior ball artistry into much needed goals.
However, two goals in quick succession in the second half through Samuel Okon (80th minute) and Chidera Ezeh (81st minute) ended the match as a contest.

This shows how powerful Nigeria is on the world stage. Go on boys and complete the great job you started.
ReplyDeleteWhat keeps baffling me is why our younger teams perform better than the older ones or is it not the young that grows to the older? One should expect that they get better with age, at least to a certain level, before the "law of diminishing return" sets in. Congrats Eaglets!
ReplyDeleteI think you are right if only our nfa can get the best out of them before they start obeying the law of gravity.

ReplyDeleteIts like when the right thing is done, the desired results would be achieved. The down part is that in Nigeria, doing the right thing doesn't last. Congrats boys, we shall have the trophy for the fourth time.
ReplyDeleteNigeria shld be wary of Mexico. Let us not be complacent because we beat them 6 - 1 at the group stage. They are more determined now. More than ever. Please, let us prepare very well for them.
ReplyDeleteGod is behind you boys, victory is certain.wishing you best of luck.
ReplyDeleteWhere is Phillip Osondu?
ReplyDeleteWhere is Rabiu Ibrahim?
Nigeria should stop all these win at all cost mentality and develop her football using the right age for an age-grade competition. I am interested in which of those young/old boys/men will make the national team in the next 5-10 years. You can only fool some people sometime but not all the people all the time.
For me this set looked the youngest ever especially that no: 17 player that scored the 3rd goal against sweden... I am seeing many 'baby faces on the field' wishing the guys all the best...Odun Tutu
