The Academic Staff Union of Universities on Wednesday suspended indefinitely, the National Executive Council meeting scheduled to hold in Kano, following the death of Prof. Festus Iyayi, the union’s president has announced.
Dr. Nasir Fagge told the News Agency of Nigeria that the meeting was cancelled in honour of the union former president who died in an accident involving Kogi governor’s convoy on Tuesday.
The union was expected to announce the suspension of the five- month old industrial action that had paralysed academic activities in the nation’s universities at the end of the now aborted meeting. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

ReplyDeleteI hope the late Prof. was not travelling to the meeting to oppose the calling off of the strike considering the reported negative resolution of the UNIBEN Chapter of ASUU. If not, may his soul rest in peace & his death lead to stability in our university system. However, let it be known that we have decreed instant death to any person who makes himself a stumbling block to the ending of this useless strike for the benefit of the long suffering Nigerian Students. Others beware!
