Uduaghan to DSS: Identify Kelvin’s gang members

Delta State governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan with some displaced persons
Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, told state Directors of Department of State Service, DSS, in the South-South region, yesterday, that the remnants of the criminal gang of arrested Delta kidnap kingpin, Kelvin Oniarah, still need to be identified and uprooted from their strongholds.

The governor stated this at Government House Annex, Warri, when he played host to the DSS directors, who were in the state for a zonal conference on “Kidnapping and Violent Crimes-Socio-Economic Implications and Control Measures.”

The South-South DSS were led to the meeting by their chairman, Mrs. Florence Ikanome, who is the Director in DeltaState.

His words: “I commend the DSS for the eventual arrest of Kelvin, we know the efforts that were put in place, we also know it is doing something to get the remnants of Kelvin gang- that is the challenge.”
The governor, who is Chairman of   the Presidential Committee on Crude Oil Theft also said government requires intelligence information   from DSS on the identities of the barons behind oil theft, saying that most of those arrested so far were their errand boys.

He was happy with the theme of the conference and urged the South-South DSS directors to synergize with their counterparts in the South-East and South West on how to tackle kidnapping and other crimes since they have all become borderless.

According to him, “there may be kidnapping in Delta state, the victim will be taken to Edo state and the negotiation for the release will be done in Rivers state. There is really no boundary in their operation, except there is information and synergy; it will be difficult to handle them.”

Earlier on, while receiving the Flag Officer Commanding, FOC, Central Naval Command, Rear Admiral Sidi Usman, the governor said that kidnapping, oil theft and piracy have reduced in the state and commended the Navy for its role in the reduction.
