After spending nine days in the hands of the kidnappers, Mrs. Douglas-Ayam was set free in the early morning hours of today. It is not yet clear if any ransom was paid.
According to the statement, the released woman is currently receiving medical treatment.
She was abducted by unidentified armed men from her shop at Ogbia in Ogbia local government area of the state.
Last week, the patriarch of the family, Mr. Romeo Douglas, had pleaded with his sister's captors to set the woman free, as her health condition was poor.
Today, the family members expressed their gratitude to the well-wishers, but said no further statements on the matter would be made, as they wish to leave the traumatic experience in the past.
