IN PICTURES: Stella Oduah Faces House Committee Hearing Over BMW Car Scandal

The hearing was adjourned from yesterday, Wednesday, to allow the aviation minister attend. The minister was expected at the Wednesday hearing but was absent because she was away in Israel for a bilateral air service agreement signing.

NE gathered that the minister arrived at the venue of the hearing, 100 minutes after the hearing was scheduled to kick off.

Ms. Oduah however apologized for her inability to attend previous hearings. She said said her absence was not out of disrespect and thanks the committee for rescheduling her appearance.

“Nigeria’s airspace is now rate among the safest in the world”. She adds that allegation about car purchase is meant to discredit her team and give the impression her effort at reforms is not succeeding.

NCAA has not spent any money not appropriated by the National Assembly. The agency has even saved the nation a cost and further embarrassment that may occur in future.

Jerry Manwe (Member) to minister: If the armoured cars were not for you as you claimed, who is using them now?

Former acting DG answers for minister: Any one can use any car in the pool

Manwe: Do you mean a cleaner can use those kind of cars?

Former DG: Anybody can use; but those kind of cars are for VIP movement, including foreign dignitaries, including the minister, and even you honourable member!

Manwe; Thank you. But the law of the country does not allow me to use those cars.

Wrapping up the hearing. Chairperson Onyejeocha said despite the testimonies from those invited since last week, the committee has received sufficient documents that will inform its report. “We have given everyone fair hearing,” she said.

“We assure everyone and all Nigerians we will do justice”.

The highlight of Thursday's hearing was the minister’s appearance. Her absence at the hearing on Wednesday angered many lawmakers who said it would be her last opportunity to be heard.

  6. The only way u can test human being especially a Nigerian is by putting him/her in position of trust. Almost all Nigerians are crooks and thiefs of the highest order, from the highest man in the countey (Preident Goodluck Ebele Jonathan) to the least man on the street, they are all thiefs. That's why we always are treated and held in contempt by foreigners inside and outside the country. The funny thing is that this canker worm has eaten deep into our bone marrow. The so called new generation are not even helping matters. They have elevated corruption to new level. Even the devel Satan will marvel at what Nigerians can do. Satan will even tell God that he is not as wicked and corrupt as Nigerians. Sometimes l begin to wonder what species of human are nigerians.

  8. I don’t know why the Yorubas should hate the Igbos in this way, that is they hate the Igbos to a fault. corruption is an individual thing being igbo, hausa or yoruba does not matter but the hatred and wickedness of wiping out the igbos in the face of Nigeria during the war and after the war by their father Awolowo eg. cutting off food supply in Igbo land during the war .....2...Devaluation of their monies from whoever that have eg. 5billon pounds to 50naira. For him out of wickedness to cripple the igbos and move them out for his people to take their abandon property, whatever any Igbo dose, yorubas will shout crucify him crucify him. Is not pple that brought price to Stella Oduoa?…. go and check; it will be a Yoruba man or woman ;....cut in the bush come outside to shout who is there;..
I blame the Igbos who have them as friends ... marry them as wives and husbands… But let me be blunt as an Igbo man, if my sister Adaeze is guilty she is wrong....I know the Yorubas will ever say that their brother is wrong or corrupt...p/s live the Igbos alone they are God sent, the largest Christian dynasty so GOD listens, whenever they cry ... (‘’You Soul”… the yorubas who are anointed by man cannot pull them down ...”David”..the Igbos, God anointed people).
It is only your wicked arrows and bows from your soul ....but the tail of your rob or skirt will always be in our hands.
    Thanks from ONIO

  9. The new generation politicians are going to be worse. They have learnt not to be patient. They have learnt not work hard but to go through short cuts. They dont believe in merits but who do you know. Are we sure Nigeria is going to be better with what we are witnessing now?

  10. They should please leave this woman alone, did she take the car to her house to be use by any members of her family? or are you people saying she is the only corrupt leader we have in this country? or is it bcos others has not been caught? let all our leaders go for corruption check-up, then you will see that they all have one short coming or the other in their pockets including all Nigerians even our spiritual leaders are not excepted it is a virus that is eating deep into our system, and if we want this decease to be eliminated we must start from our very self purification, may God have mercy and help IJN

  11. I'm sure because she is a woman that is why they are lauding it this way, whereas some of our leaders has even done worst things and if only God can expose them, probably someone is interested in that seat, if by virtue of her position she is favour by God or man they should leave her alone for the final judgement belongs to God we should not just pick interest in condemning others whereas as an individual we do worst things which God cannot behold and I want to sound clear and loud that offense is and offense either big or small no body in Nigeria or even world at large is excepted, we all have sinned and come short before our maker, we are too dirty to stand before the Almighty God the maker of heaven and earth, not until we come to realise this as an individual before things can come back to normal, let's start by purging ourselves then we will be free before God and not even man because, that is the ultimate were we will spend our eternity whether we like it or not we owe God explanation on how we exploit this earth.

  12. It's unfortunate, that in this platform, we have many biased commentators and contributors. Why must we crucify her. Is it criminal for a minister to acquire an armored vehicle or that she did not follow due process or is it that the cars' prices were inflated. Before we call for her head or call for her trial we should be able to establish a good case against her rather than work with sentiments and say things even to insult our president, the minister, even her kinsmen and some other dignitaries. My advice is for everyone to wait and see what the findings and reports of the committee would be on the issue. I plead to all and sundry to avoid having the syndrome of transfer of aggression mar our sense of judgment and carriage of justice. I am a strong believer in the principles of 'rule of law'. She is indeed answerable to any misconduct of her office or by her.

The way Nigerians solve issues is terrible and you can just imagine how the nation will fare in the future. This country is always deteriorating in standards across almost all facets of life. Naija ti baje tan.
